Spectrum Military Deployment: Number Hold, Mobile Suspension, Cancel

Spectrum’s military policy is unusual among the big providers in one way: it names the statute. Its “Phone Number Reservation for Active Military Customers” article calls the 3-year number hold “a benefit of the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act,” and its request form is titled an SCRA Disconnection Request (both read August 15, 2026). The rest of the policy is spread across a Spectrum Mobile suspension article and the general change-or-cancel page.

Spectrum’s pages are implementing 50 U.S.C. § 3956. Two parts of the statute matter most here: termination is by written or electronic notice with a copy of the orders and the date service ends (§ 3956(a)(3)), and the provider must then let you keep a mobile or landline number after a relocation of three years or less if you re-subscribe within 90 days of its end (§ 3956(c)). How to file with Spectrum

Cancel or suspend Spectrum on orders

Home Phone or Mobile number hold: open the online SCRA form linked from Spectrum’s military benefit article (sign in or create a Spectrum account first), or download the English or Spanish PDF. The form asks for the numbers to save, the Home Phone and Mobile account numbers, the disconnection date, and your signature.
Attach a copy of your relocation orders or deployment letter. Online uploads must be PDF or JPEG.
Mailing instead? Send the form and orders to Spectrum, Attention: OCS-Military Leave Program, 4145 S. Falkenburg Road, Riverview, Florida 33578. Keep a copy and use tracked mail; Spectrum states no processing time.
Spectrum Mobile suspension: call (833) 224-6603 with your deployment papers. Decide on the Device Payment Plan (pay off or continue) and the Protection Plan (cancel or continue) on that call.
Internet and TV: sign in to view your cancellation options, set the disconnect date to match your move, and return the modem, router, and any receivers by mail or at a Spectrum store. Photograph the equipment and keep the receipt.
On return: request reactivation within 90 days of coming back (Spectrum’s form makes this your responsibility) so the number is restored with reconnection and activation fees waived. The deadline checker can hold the date.

Things members trip on at Spectrum

The form’s math and the statute’s math. Spectrum’s SCRA form has you certify a relocation “of not less than three (3) months,” while its article and § 3956 say 90 days. Treat 90 days as the line. A 90-day deployment letter satisfies both.

Two account numbers, two products. The reservation form has separate blanks for a Home Phone account and a Spectrum Mobile account. If you carry both, fill both. A Mobile line that is suspended rather than cancelled keeps its own number without the form; use the form when you are cancelling.

PCS inside the U.S. is narrower for Mobile suspension. Spectrum’s condition is a new duty station with no Spectrum or roaming-partner coverage. The statute’s trigger is a location that does not support the contract. If Spectrum says your new base has coverage but you are cancelling anyway, you can still terminate under § 3956 with the written notice and orders; the 39-month suspension is Spectrum’s program with Spectrum’s terms.

Suspending the primary line suspends the second. Spectrum’s article says the second Mobile line and any paired Apple Watch are suspended automatically with the primary; a second line can be suspended on its own. Check which line the spouse who is staying home is on.

Reactivation is not free of everything. Spectrum waives reconnection and activation fees but says normal installation and equipment charges apply. That is what § 3956(e)(2) permits: no reinstatement charge, but the usual equipment and installation charges any subscriber pays.

Seasonal status is not the military route. It is a paid hold for part-time residents (2 to 9 months, once every 12 months). On orders, cancel Internet and TV outright: no ETF, and a refund of anything paid past the current cycle within 60 days under § 3956(f). Spectrum’s cancel page also allows an account transfer for “military leave” if a spouse or roommate is keeping the service.

The DOJ has enforced § 3956 against a telecom carrier before: the GTA (Teleguam) settlement returned $450,000 to over 1,300 servicemembers charged early termination fees on cell contracts. Spectrum is not part of that record; the case is the reason to keep your written notice and orders together.
