BMW Military Discount: $500 via BMW FS Lease, Up to $5,000 Paying Cash
Part of: The Complete Guide to the SCRA
BMW does offer a military discount, and how you pay sets its size. BMW of North America’s Military Incentive page, read October 9, 2026, gives $500 to a buyer who leases through BMW Financial Services or takes a BMW FS promotional APR. A buyer who pays cash, finances with another lender, or takes a BMW FS loan without a promotional rate gets $1,500 to $5,000 off MSRP, depending on the model. The offer covers active duty, veterans, retirees, reservists, and immediate family, verified through ID.me, for retail delivery between October 1 and November 2, 2026.
BMW Financial Services also runs its own Military Customers page for SCRA requests. That page, and a 2018 Justice Department case over lease refunds, shape what you get back if orders cut a BMW lease short.

Read on bmwusa.com October 9, 2026, for retail delivery October 1 to November 2, 2026, at participating BMW centers.
To claim it, verify through ID.me from the offer page. You get a Customer ID and an Offer Code, and the dealer needs both plus your photo ID and a BMW Manufacturer Certificate. The limit is one offer per customer, per offer code, per calendar year, on a new BMW with no prior retail sale. It combines with most other offers but not the BMW Corporate Sales Program, and BMW says some more exclusive models are excluded.
One wrinkle in the fine print. One paragraph says the eligible customer “or family member” must be the purchaser. Another says the “eligible military member must be the purchaser.” If a spouse is buying alone, get the BMW center to confirm in writing that the offer code works in the spouse’s name.
The $3,500 question on an X5
Pay cash or bring your own loan and an X5 gets $4,000 off MSRP. Take a BMW FS promotional APR and it gets $500. The promotional rate has to save you more than $3,500 in interest to come out ahead. BMW’s page says promotional APRs “vary by model and model year” and sends you to a dealer, so it prints no rate to check.
Here is how to size it. As an illustration, on $60,000 financed over 60 months at rates near 5%, each percentage point of APR is worth about $1,640 in interest. The BMW FS promotional rate would need to beat your outside rate by roughly 2.1 points before the $500 version wins. Get the BMW FS rate quote in writing, get a credit union pre-approval for the same term, and compare total interest. The military car loans page lists published credit union auto rates. Note that a standard-rate BMW FS loan still earns the larger credit; only the lease and the promotional APR drop it to $500.
Ending a BMW FS lease on orders
BMW FS’s own SCRA page lists “early termination of vehicle lease agreements” among the benefits. The rule behind it is 50 U.S.C. § 3955. You can end a lease you signed as a civilian once you enter active duty on orders of 180 days or more. You can end a lease you signed while serving on PCS orders out of the continental U.S., or from a state outside it to anywhere outside that state, or on deployment orders of 180 days or more. A stop movement order, indefinite or for 30 days or more, also qualifies if you signed the lease on such orders. A PCS within the continental U.S. does not qualify. The car lease termination guide covers the triggers in more detail.
BMW FS asks for a written request with your account number, email, phone, and the relief you want, plus your orders or a commanding officer’s letter. It takes them by email at SCRAUS@bmwfs.com, by fax at 1-614-789-7200, or by mail to its Columbus, Ohio office, and says to allow 48 business hours for review. The statute then gives you 15 days from delivering notice to return the car.
What you still owe under § 3955(e)(2): prorated payments, taxes, title and registration fees, and reasonable charges for excess wear, use, and mileage. BMW FS sells extra miles through its Mileage Adjustment Program up to the day before turn-in, and its optional Lease-End Protection covers up to $5,000 of excess wear and use. Check whether your lease has that coverage before the inspection. Run your own numbers in the lease termination calculator.
Your down payment and the 2018 case
In February 2018 BMW FS agreed to pay $2,165,518.84 to 492 service members to settle a Justice Department case over lease money it kept. The government said capitalized cost reduction, the down payment on a lease, is a lease amount paid in advance and must be refunded pro rata under § 3955(f). BMW FS disputed that, calling it a down payment kept by the dealer, and neither admitted nor denied the allegations. The case page has the details.
The formula the settlement used to repay the 492 is the useful part. Start with the capitalized cost reduction. Subtract rebates and incentives, negative equity a dealer paid off, the acquisition fee, protection plans refundable on their own, and tax, title and license. Multiply what is left by the months remaining, divide by the lease term, and subtract any past-due payments.
As an illustration, say you put $3,900 of your own cash down on a 39-month lease and orders end it with 26 months left. $3,900 times 26, divided by 39, is $2,600 back under the settlement formula. Under that formula, a rebate such as the $500 military lease credit is subtracted first and never comes back as cash. The agreement ran four years and has expired, and BMW FS never conceded the point. Section 3955(f) still requires lease amounts paid in advance for the period after termination to come back within 30 days, so ask for the prorated down payment in your notice, in writing, and cite the 2018 formula.
BMW FS’s SCRA page also lists “interest rate reduction for retail installment contracts.” That is the 6% cap in 50 U.S.C. § 3937, and it reaches only a BMW FS loan you signed before active duty. The auto loan rate cap guide walks through it.
Use the BMW incentive and your SCRA rights
- Before you shop, verify through ID.me on BMW’s Military Incentive page and save the Customer ID and Offer Code. Delivery must happen by November 2, 2026.
- Price the car three ways: BMW FS lease, BMW FS promotional APR, and cash or an outside loan with the larger credit.
- On qualifying orders, email SCRAUS@bmwfs.com (or fax 1-614-789-7200) a written request with your account number, email, phone, the relief you want, and your orders. Draft it with the letter generator.
- Return the car within 15 days of delivering notice, and keep the signed inspection report.
- Ask in writing for lease amounts paid in advance for the period after termination, refundable within 30 days under § 3955(f), and for the prorated share of your down payment.
- If BMW FS refuses the termination or keeps the refund, use the escalation steps and call your installation legal office.

Frequently asked questions
Does BMW offer a military discount?
Yes. BMW of North America's Military Incentive page, read October 9, 2026, offers $500 to $5,000 on a new MY26 or MY27 BMW for active duty, veterans, retirees, reservists, their immediate family, and first responders, verified through ID.me. The amount depends on how you pay. A BMW Financial Services lease or promotional-APR loan gets $500. Cash, an outside lender, or a standard-rate BMW FS loan gets $1,500 to $5,000 off MSRP by model. Retail delivery must happen between October 1 and November 2, 2026, at a participating BMW center.
Can I use the BMW military rebate on a lease?
Yes, but it is the smallest version. BMW's page, read October 9, 2026, gives eligible customers a $500 lease credit on a new MY26 or MY27 BMW leased through BMW Financial Services. The same buyer paying cash for an X5 would get $4,000 off MSRP instead. The incentive combines with most other BMW offers but not the BMW Corporate Sales Program. If orders could cut the lease short, remember that the SCRA lets you end a qualifying lease with no early termination charge, and that under the refund formula BMW FS agreed to in 2018, rebates counted toward the down payment were not refunded as cash.
Does the BMW military discount cover family members and reservists?
Yes. BMW's fine print, read October 9, 2026, lists Active Duty, Veterans, Retirees, Reservists, and their immediate family members, plus active and retired first responders. Each verifies through ID.me to get a Customer ID and Offer Code. The page is not consistent about who must sign: one paragraph says the eligible customer or family member must be the purchaser, and another says the eligible military member must be the purchaser. If a spouse is buying alone, have the BMW center confirm in writing that the offer code works in the spouse's name before you sign.
How do I request SCRA benefits from BMW Financial Services?
BMW Financial Services' Military Customers page, read October 9, 2026, asks for a written request with your BMW FS account number, email address, phone number, and the relief you want, plus a copy of your official orders or a letter from your commanding officer. Send it by email to SCRAUS@bmwfs.com, by fax to 1-614-789-7200, or by mail to BMW Financial Services, 1400 City View Drive, Columbus, OH 43215, Attn: Military Status Requests. BMW FS says to allow 48 business hours for its review.
Can I break my BMW lease if I deploy?
Yes, if the deployment is for 180 days or more, or if you get PCS orders from the continental U.S. to a location outside it, or from Alaska, Hawaii, or a territory to anywhere outside it. Those are the triggers in 50 U.S.C. § 3955(b)(2)(B) for a lease you signed while already serving. If you signed the lease before entering active duty, orders of 180 days or more qualify. Deliver written notice and your orders to BMW Financial Services, then return the car within 15 days. BMW FS cannot charge an early termination fee, but you still owe prorated payments, taxes, title and registration fees, and reasonable excess wear and mileage.
Will BMW Financial Services refund my lease down payment?
The Justice Department says the prorated part must come back, and BMW FS disputed that. 50 U.S.C. § 3955(f) requires a lessor to refund lease amounts paid in advance for the period after termination within 30 days. In 2018 BMW FS agreed to pay $2,165,518.84 to 492 service members to settle a Justice Department case alleging it refunded none of their capitalized cost reduction; BMW FS neither admitted nor denied the allegations. The settlement prorated the cash and trade-in portion by the months left on the lease, after subtracting rebates, the acquisition fee, and tax, title and license. Ask for that refund in your termination notice, in writing.
