Astound does not publish a military discount. Its deals page covers students and low-income households, and the word “military” appears in its customer terms only in a clause excusing delays caused by civil or military authority (read October 10, 2026). Because Astound’s offers say no contract is required, orders rarely mean a termination fee. They do mean two decisions that cost money if you get them wrong: which day you call, and when the equipment goes back.

Astound’s terms against § 3956

Section 3956 lets a servicemember end internet, TV, phone, and mobile contracts signed before orders that relocate them for 90 days or more to a place the contract does not support. The phone, cable, and internet guide explains the rule. Astound’s own documents, checked October 10, 2026:

ItemAstound’s terms sayOn qualifying orders
Military discountNone publishedNot a federal right
Contract”No contract required” on current offersCovers month-to-month service too
How to disconnectCall 1-800-427-8686Written notice plus orders, § 3956(a)(3)
Internet-only last monthFull charge, no proration, ends at period endCurrent period excluded from refund, § 3956(f)
Bundled last monthProrated by days, except possibly the internet pieceSame exclusion
Modem and boxes15 days, or “on the day of or prior to” the disconnect10 days after disconnection, § 3956(e)(3)

The no-proration rule appears twice. The Customer Terms and Conditions apply it to internet-only customers; section IX.6 of the Internet Access Agreement applies it to the internet service whenever it ends early, with no internet-only limit. Either is legal under the statute, which lets a provider keep the billing period you cancel in. It just rewards planning.

The cancel date, worked out

Astound’s homepage advertised Gig WiFi at $45 a month on October 10, 2026, a limited-time price that includes an autopay and e-bill discount; your bill may differ by region. Use it as an illustration. Say your service period runs from the 1st to the 30th and your last night in the house is the 12th.

  • Internet only, call on the 12th: Astound bills the full $45, the cancellation takes effect on the 30th, and you pay for 18 days in an empty house.
  • Internet only, but your period renews on the 6th: cancel effective the 5th and a new $45 period never starts. That saves a full $45, at the cost of a week without home internet before you leave.
  • Internet plus TV or phone: the general terms prorate a month that ends early by days of service, so the TV or phone part of a month you leave on the 12th costs about 12 ÷ 30 of its charge. Under section IX.6 the internet part may still bill in full, so ask.

If a spouse stays in the house, none of this applies: keep the service, and see the spouse and family guide for the protections a spouse holds in their own right. Otherwise, find your period dates on the MyAstound bill before you pick a date. Astound’s moving page asks you to say what day you are moving “so your services will stop and you’ll know when your last bill is due.”

Equipment: three deadlines on one website

Astound’s paperwork does not agree with itself on timing:

  • The High-Speed Internet Addendum, section 8.1: return the modem in good condition within 15 days after termination or pay an unreturned or damaged equipment fee from “the then-current applicable rate card.”
  • The equipment return page: return gear “on the day of or prior to the scheduled disconnect work order.”
  • The Customer Terms and Conditions: customer termination is allowed “provided all Equipment is returned immediately.”

Section 3956(e)(3) gives a servicemember 10 days after disconnection. The pages read for this article print no dollar amounts for unreturned gear, so the safest plan is the strictest one: hand it over on disconnect day. Equipment includes TiVo DVRs and converter boxes, CableCARDs, cable modems, WiFi routers, and Enhanced Whole Home WiFi units. Call first to schedule the disconnect work order, then use a prepaid FedEx label or a local office; Astound says to call before visiting to confirm that office takes returns.

Moving with Astound

If the next duty station is inside Astound’s footprint, its moving page says you can schedule the move up to 30 days ahead, keep the same plan, and in most cases take your equipment with you. Self-install can switch service on the day you arrive. If the new address is outside Astound’s area, the page says you can cancel and return gear with a prepaid label or at a local payment center. That second case is a “location that does not support the contract” under § 3956(a)(1)(A).

Two other pieces of fine print matter on the way out. New customers who cancel within 30 days of installation get a refund of up to one month’s recurring charges, paid within 60 days. And Astound Mobile requires Astound internet: its disclaimer says a higher rate applies if internet is not maintained, so price the phone lines before you cancel the internet.

Astound’s offer fine print also differs by page. The homepage version read October 10, 2026 said internet pricing is valid for 12 months, with price for life on Gig and faster plans for $5 more a month. The version at the foot of the equipment return page said 12 months under 1 Gig and 36 months for Gig and above. Check the terms printed on your own order.

The GFiber deal

On March 11, 2026, GFiber and Stonepeak announced an agreement to combine GFiber with Astound Broadband, to be led by GFiber’s executive team and expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026. No closing had been announced in Astound’s newsroom by October 10, 2026. GFiber’s own terms refund unused days after a cancellation, but until a merger closes and new terms are issued, Astound customers live under Astound’s rules above.

Cancel Astound on military orders

  1. Confirm the orders qualify with the eligibility checker; Guard and Reserve orders can count.
  2. Pull your bill in MyAstound and note when the current service period ends. If you have internet only, set the cancel date just before a new period starts.
  3. Call 1-800-427-8686 to schedule the disconnect work order. Send written notice with your orders and that date; the letter generator drafts it.
  4. Ask Astound to confirm in writing that no early termination charge or promotional chargeback applies under 50 U.S.C. § 3956(e)(1).
  5. Return modems, routers, eero units, TiVo boxes, and CableCARDs on disconnect day, by FedEx label or at a local office. Keep the tracking number.
  6. Check the final bill and any deposit refund, and enter your termination and disconnect dates in the deadline checker.

The same orders usually let you break an apartment lease; the rest of the move is in the PCS money moves.

The law behind this: 50 U.S.C. § 3956

Termination of certain consumer contracts: internet access, mobile, landline, TV, gym, and home security: read the statute , or read § 3956 in plain English, with its enforcement record .

Frequently asked questions

Does Astound have a military discount?

Not one it publishes. Astound's deals page lists a student discount and the Internet First low-income program, its support pages include a senior discount form (a $2 cable credit in limited areas for account holders 65 or older, with Veterans Service Benefits among the accepted proofs), and its Customer Terms and Conditions mention the military only in a force majeure clause about orders of civil or military authority (read October 10, 2026). If your bill still says RCN, Grande, Wave, enTouch, or Digital West, the same terms apply: Astound's newsroom says those brands moved to the Astound Broadband name on January 12, 2022.

Can I cancel Astound without a fee when I get orders?

Yes. Astound's offers say no contract is required, and its terms let you end service at any time on notice. On orders that relocate you for 90 days or more to a place Astound does not serve, signed before the orders, 50 U.S.C. § 3956(e)(1) also bars any early termination charge. What remains is the current month and the equipment. Astound's Internet Access Agreement says you must call 1-800-427-8686 to disconnect and stop billing.

Will Astound refund part of my last month?

It depends on what you have. For customers who take only internet, Astound's terms say you owe the full monthly charge without proration, the cancellation takes effect at the end of the current service period, and you keep access until then. The general terms prorate a month that ends early by the number of days service was provided, but section IX.6 of the Internet Access Agreement bills the internet service in full whenever it ends early, so a bundle may be split: TV or phone prorated, internet not. Ask before you pick a date. Section 3956(f) does not change either rule, because it excludes the billing period in which you cancel.

How long do I have to return Astound equipment?

Astound gives three answers. Its High-Speed Internet Addendum says 15 days after termination before an unreturned or damaged equipment fee. Its equipment return page asks for the gear on the day of, or before, the scheduled disconnect. Its general terms say equipment must come back immediately. Under 50 U.S.C. § 3956(e)(3), a servicemember cancelling on orders returns provider-owned gear within 10 days of disconnection. Return it at the disconnect and none of the deadlines matter.

Is Astound merging with Google Fiber?

An agreement is signed but had not closed when checked. GFiber and Stonepeak, Astound's owner, announced on March 11, 2026 that they had agreed to combine GFiber with Astound Broadband, subject to regulatory approvals and expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026. Astound's newsroom listed no closing announcement on October 10, 2026. Until it does, Astound's own terms, phone number, and equipment rules apply.
