1-800-PACK-RAT Military Discount: MILITARY10 or SAVE25, Not Both
Part of: The Complete Guide to the SCRA
1-800-PACK-RAT has a military discount: 10% off with code MILITARY10 for active and retired military. The question is whether you should use it. The same site prints a second code, SAVE25, on its quote form, advertised as up to 25% off, and its offers page says promotions cannot be combined. One code per order. Run the quote twice.
Unless a sentence names Military OneSource or federal law, everything below was read on 1-800-PACK-RAT’s own pages on October 19, 2026: the codes, when the company takes your money, the rental terms that decide what a deployment costs, and what to sort out before you use a container for a personally procured move (PPM).
Two codes, one order
| Offer | What it says | Who qualifies |
|---|---|---|
| MILITARY10 | 10% off | ”All active and retired military” (military page); “military members and veterans” (FAQ on the same page) |
| SAVE25 | Up to 25% off | No eligibility limit printed; shown on the quote form |
| Price match | Will “beat any comparable portable moving container price,” some restrictions | Not stated; offered for a limited time |
| Fine print for all | Must be mentioned when the order is placed; cannot be combined; local restrictions may apply |
1-800-PACK-RAT’s cost page prints no dollar figures and sends you to the quote form, so here is an illustration only. On a $2,400 long-distance quote, MILITARY10 saves $240. SAVE25 saves $600 if it delivers the full 25%, but “up to” means it may deliver less on your dates and route. Any result above 10% beats the military code. Type each code into the quote form, compare the two totals, and book the lower one.
One stale code is still on the company’s site. A 2019 blog post gives the military code as MILIME10. The current military page says MILITARY10. Use the one on the current page.
When the money leaves your account
The FAQ’s Cost and Payments answers set the schedule:
- Local move or storage. Nothing is charged until the container is delivered. Then you pay the rental and delivery fee, and later transportation is charged as it happens. Storage fees bill on the monthly anniversary.
- Long-distance move. A $500 deposit is charged five days before the empty container arrives. The remaining balance is due before the container is transported to the destination facility. On the $2,400 illustration, that is $1,900 due before your goods move, or $1,660 if MILITARY10 brings the total to $2,160.
- Card fee. 1-800-PACK-RAT adds a credit card processing fee and says you can avoid it by paying with a debit card or e-check.
- Online payments. My PackRat takes payments online for local moving and storage customers. The FAQ says long-distance customers cannot pay online yet.
Two deadlines hide in the same FAQ. A Contents Protection Plan can only be added before the first delivery, never after. And canceling within five days of the first delivery may draw a cancellation fee, with no amount printed.
Getting a container to base housing
The company’s FAQ and military pages say nothing about installation gates or base housing, so the housing office’s answer is the one that counts. What the company does print is the space its truck needs: 13.5 feet of height, 12 feet of width, and about 55 feet of length to maneuver, on a flat surface that can bear the weight, and it asks you to flag a driveway steeper than 6 degrees. Its military FAQ says it has over 85 locations in the continental U.S., each serving customers within 100 miles. Long-distance transit typically runs up to 10 business days for moves under 1,500 miles and 10 to 14 business days beyond that, facility to facility. Stored containers sit in the company’s temperature-controlled warehouses, and you can reach yours with 24 to 48 hours’ notice.
The rental terms that set the cost of a deployment
1-800-PACK-RAT’s terms of use, effective July 5, 2023, include a refund policy that reads like a rental agreement. The rental runs month to month from the day the container is delivered, and each later due date falls on the monthly anniversary. You must pay at least one month in advance, and you “will not be entitled to a refund of any prepaid rent under any circumstances.” Either side can end the rental with at least 7 days’ notice before the rental month ends, and a partial month is never prorated.
That cuts both ways on a deployment. Prepaying removes the risk of a lapsed card. Prepaying too much costs you. Using $200 a month as an illustration, prepaying nine months is $1,800; home after seven, you forfeit $400. Giving notice six days before the rental month ends instead of seven costs one more full month, $200.
The same terms say 1-800-PACK-RAT businesses are owned and operated by the company or by franchisees. The terms of use contain no lien, sale, or default clause, so the rules for unpaid rent are in the rental agreement your location gives you. Federal law sets a floor for every one of them. Under § 3958, whoever holds a lien on your stored goods cannot foreclose on it during your service, or in the 90 days after, without first getting a judge’s order; the site’s explainer on storage liens has the details. Rent keeps accruing, so a funded autopay or an allotment to an account you control is still the plan.
PPM paperwork and the storage claim
The military page’s FAQ tells you to start with your base Personal Property Officer (PPO), and it sends you back to the PPO for help filling out weight tickets. The company’s How a Military Move Works page adds that once the move is complete, “we will mail or email your weight tickets for reimbursement.” No price for that service appears on the pages read, so ask before you book. Military OneSource adds that even a full PPM must be booked in DPS, which estimates your incentive. Its rule for containers, read October 19, 2026, is to have the company weigh the box empty before it reaches your driveway; a full ticket and an empty one both go in with your claim. The 16-foot and 12-foot containers hold up to 6,000 pounds each and the 8-foot holds 4,000, per the military page’s FAQ.
The 2019 blog post also says the government reimburses “up to 90 percent” of a PPM’s cost. Military OneSource’s PCS guide, read October 19, 2026, says the government “will pay you 100% of the government’s constructed ‘best value’ cost to hire a moving company on your behalf or perform your own move.” The military page’s claim that the military can reimburse up to 90 days of storage is not confirmed on the Military OneSource pages read for this article; its PCS FAQ sends you to the storage-in-transit section of the Joint Travel Regulations for your allotment, so ask the transportation office what your orders allow. PCS money moves breaks down how the incentive is paid.
Book 1-800-PACK-RAT for a PCS or deployment
- Run the quote with MILITARY10, then again with SAVE25. Book the lower total and name the code when you place the order.
- Ask how the empty container will be weighed for your PPM tickets and whether the tickets cost extra, and book the PPM in DPS, as Military OneSource directs.
- Decide on a Contents Protection Plan before delivery day. It cannot be added later.
- For a long-distance move, have $500 available five days before delivery and the balance before transport. Pay by debit card or e-check to skip the card fee.
- Prepay only the months you are sure of. Hand a spouse or parent the My PackRat login and a power of attorney; the spouse and family page covers what that document should say.
- Mail or email your location your orders along with a DMDC status report. Answer any sale notice in writing with a citation to § 3958. If the container was sold without a court order, the SCRA enforcement page covers your options.
The law behind this: 50 U.S.C. § 3958

Frequently asked questions
Does 1-800-PACK-RAT have a military discount?
Yes. Its military moving page, read October 19, 2026, says it "offers all active and retired military a 10% discount" with promo code MILITARY10, and lists 1-800-722-5728. An FAQ on the same page words it as 10% for military members and veterans. The company's current-offers page says every promotion must be mentioned when the order is placed and that offers cannot be combined, so say MILITARY10 at the start of the call or type it on the quote form.
Can I use MILITARY10 and SAVE25 together?
No. 1-800-PACK-RAT's current-offers page says offers "are void where prohibited and cannot be combined," and that local restrictions may apply. SAVE25 is advertised as up to 25% off, which can beat a flat 10% but is not guaranteed to. Run your quote once with each code and compare the totals. The site also advertises a price-match offer to beat a comparable portable container price, with restrictions; ask whether a match counts as a promotion before you rely on it.
Does 1-800-PACK-RAT give weight tickets for a PPM move?
Yes, per its How a Military Move Works page, read October 19, 2026: once the move is complete, "we will mail or email your weight tickets for reimbursement." The FAQ on its military page also tells you to check with your base Personal Property Officer about filling out weight tickets before and after you pack. Military OneSource allows a portable container for a PPM as long as the company records its empty weight before it is dropped at your house, and it requires both a full ticket and an empty one. Ask how the empty weight will be documented, and whether tickets cost extra, before you book.
Will 1-800-PACK-RAT refund rent if I come home early?
Not for prepaid months. The refund policy in its terms of use says you must pay at least one month in advance and "will not be entitled to a refund of any prepaid rent under any circumstances." Either side can end the month-to-month rental with at least 7 days' notice before a rental month ends, and rent is not prorated for a partial month. Prepaying a deployment protects you from a lapse but costs you any months you do not use.
Can 1-800-PACK-RAT auction my container if rent stops during a deployment?
Only after a court says so. Under 50 U.S.C. § 3958, anyone holding a storage lien on a servicemember's belongings must get a court order before it can enforce that lien, for as long as you serve and 90 days beyond. That applies whether your container sits with a company-run location or a franchisee, which 1-800-PACK-RAT's terms say also operate under its name. Its terms of use contain no lien or sale clause, so ask for your rental agreement's default terms.
