Chevrolet’s military discount runs on a number, not a coupon. GM calls the program Military Appreciation, and it covers new Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac vehicles. Chevrolet’s own military support page, read October 16, 2026, puts the offer at a $500 total cash allowance on most models. To get it, you need a GM authorization number in the dealer’s hands before delivery.

GM’s program site at gmmilitaryappreciation.com carries the rules, the FAQ and the eligible-vehicle list. Its footnotes say to take new retail delivery by January 4, 2027.

GM’s program rules in one table

DeadlineTake new retail delivery by January 4, 2027

One branch is missing from GM’s list. The program names the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard, and does not name the Space Force. If you serve in the Space Force, see whether ID.me verification goes through before you shop, and ask GM through the program’s contact form if it does not.

Chevrolet’s own pages are out of step with each other. The disclosure on its military support page still reads “Must take new retail delivery by 1/2/2026,” and one disclosure on its special offers page says 1/2/25. GM’s program site, the Chevrolet military flyer and the newer disclosures say January 4, 2027. Go by the program site.

How the authorization number works

You create a GM My Account, finish registering on the program site, and verify through ID.me. Then you click Get Authorization Number and GM emails it. GM’s FAQ says the dealer “MUST have” your number before completing the lease or purchase. The number lasts 90 days, so request it once you have picked a vehicle, not months ahead. If it expires unused, GM adds the authorization back to your account and you request a new one.

At the dealer, bring the number and a copy of your driver’s license with the license number blacked out. Your date of birth and ZIP code on that license must match what you used to get the number. A PCS that changes your license address before you buy can trip this check, so request the number with the license you will show.

Dealer participation is voluntary and set “on a vehicle line basis,” GM says. Mention the program at your first contact. If a dealer will not take it, GM’s answer is to go to another dealer.

The $75 fee cap and the six-month rule

The documentation fee rule can be worth more than the allowance. GM’s rules let a dealer charge at most $75 in documentation fees on a program sale, with one exception: a state law that specifies the fee, together with a dealer that charges all customers the same amount. Take an illustrative dealer whose posted doc fee is $699 in a state with no set fee. Under the program cap you pay $75, a $624 difference, on top of the $500 allowance. That is $1,124 of value from a $500 offer. Read the buyer’s order line by line, because the fee is easy to miss.

The retention rule cuts the other way. GM’s rules require you to own and keep a vehicle obtained “with cash or through a loan” for at least six months from delivery, and its FAQ states the six months with no qualifier at all. Break the rule and GM’s sanctions can include “repayment of monies” and loss of program privileges for two years per violation. Orders that arrive in month four do not appear as an exception in GM’s rules.

That makes a lease worth a hard look when orders are likely, with a caveat. Neither GM’s rules nor its FAQ say anything about a lease ended on military orders, while 50 U.S.C. § 3955 lets a lease signed during service end when you are ordered to a permanent station outside the continental United States or deployed for at least 180 days, with no early termination charge. Ask GM in writing how it treats a § 3955 termination inside six months. The statute page for § 3955 has the full text, and the lease termination calculator prices the exit. Keep copies of everything: in 2022 a court entered an amended consent order after the Justice Department alleged GM Financial denied or mishandled more than 1,000 lease termination requests, as the GM Financial case page details.

Overseas, spouses and the loan rate

Stationed abroad? GM’s FAQ says you can use the offer when you purchase and take delivery in the United States, and you can get the authorization online from overseas. A spouse can use it only as your sponsored spouse while you are eligible. GM’s FAQ answers “No” on surviving spouses, a gap the military spouse guide does not fix, because the SCRA does not govern a manufacturer’s program.

On the loan, federal law is silent for a GM vehicle bought during service. The SCRA’s 6% cap applies only to debt that predates your active-duty start, and the Military Lending Act’s definition in 32 CFR 232.3(f)(2)(ii) skips a vehicle purchase loan that the vehicle secures. Shop the rate against the military car loan rates before you sign. If you carry a GM Financial loan from before service, the GM Financial SCRA page covers the 6% request.

Use the GM Military Appreciation offer

  1. Confirm your model is on GM’s eligible list (updated August 31, 2026) and that your dealer takes the program for that vehicle line.
  2. Create a GM My Account, verify through ID.me with an LES dated within 30 days, current activation orders, a DD214 or retiree documents.
  3. Request the authorization number only after you pick the vehicle. It expires in 90 days, and you get two a year.
  4. Bring the number and a license copy with the number redacted; make sure the ZIP and birth date match your request.
  5. Check the buyer’s order for a documentation fee over $75 and ask which state-law exception applies if there is one.
  6. If orders may come within six months, price a lease too, since § 3955 gives a lease signed during service a lawful exit, and get GM’s answer on retention in writing.
The law behind this: 50 U.S.C. § 3955

Frequently asked questions

How do I get a GM military discount authorization number?

GM's FAQ, read October 16, 2026, lays out three steps. Create a GM My Account, return to gmmilitaryappreciation.com to finish registering, and verify your military status through ID.me. Then click Get Authorization Number and follow the prompts. Once approved, GM emails the number to you. Each number is valid for 90 days from issue, you get two a year, and the dealer must have it before the lease or purchase is completed. An unused number goes back into your account when it expires.

What is the GM military discount login?

It is your GM My Account, the same login GM uses for its owner sites and the myChevrolet, myBuick, myGMC and myCadillac apps, according to GM's program FAQ. After you sign in, the program site sends you through ID.me to confirm your status. ID.me asks for an email address and your Social Security number, and GM says there is no other way to verify. GM's automated help line for the program is 1-866-902-1902.

How much is the Chevrolet military discount?

Chevrolet's military support page, read October 16, 2026, shows a $500 total cash allowance on most models, and GM's program site sets a January 4, 2027 delivery deadline. That site prints no single figure, but its eligible-vehicle list, updated August 31, 2026, marks the 2025 Cadillac XT4 and XT6 at $1,000. GM says the offer combines with most current offers. It cannot be stacked with GM's First Responder, Educator, Family First, Supplier, dealership employee or executive referral programs, so ask the dealer to show how the values add up.

Can I show my CAC instead of using ID.me for the GM military discount?

No. GM's FAQ says the program requires ID.me, and that ID.me cannot accept a copy of a military ID card, citing 18 U.S.C. 701. Active members should use a Leave and Earnings Statement issued within the last 30 days, and activated Guard or Reserve members can use current orders showing activation dates. Veterans use a DD214. Retirees can use a Retiree Account Statement, a retiree pay verification letter, or a retiree ID card, among other listed documents.

Do I need GM Financial to get the military discount?

No. GM's FAQ answers that you can purchase or lease through any financial institution, though some APR offers are tied to specific lenders. So you can take the military allowance and finance with a credit union. Compare the total, because a GM Financial special APR may be worth more than the outside rate. A GM loan signed on active duty gets no SCRA 6% cap either way.
