PODS Military Discount: Code SERV10 Must Go On Before Delivery

Part of: The Complete Guide to the SCRA

PODS publishes a military discount with an actual percentage attached: code SERV10 takes 10% off the delivery, the storage rent, and long-distance transport, at participating locations. PODS prints the starting price for one of its containers at $149 a month, so at that price a 12-month deployment saves $178.80 in rent alone, if the 10% applies to every month as the military page says. The catch is timing. PODS says a promo code cannot be applied once the container has been delivered, so the code goes on the quote or it does not count.

This page covers what SERV10 does and does not touch, how PODS bills while a container sits in storage during a PCS or deployment, how to get weight tickets for a personally procured move, and what federal law says if the rent stops while you are serving.

What SERV10 covers, line by line

Read October 19, 2026, from PODS’s military page, its storage cost page, and its containers and storage FAQ. The offer terms add four limits: it cannot be combined with any other offer, the code must be provided at the time of order, it is “available for a limited time only at participating locations,” and promotional pricing is whatever is available when you buy. PODS’s promotions page, read the same day, words the military offer more narrowly, listing 10% off the initial local delivery and first month’s storage, plus long-distance transport between locations, with no mention of later months, so confirm on your written quote that the 10% carries into every month. On eligibility, the wording varies by page. The military page, read October 19, 2026, opens with “Whether you’re active duty or inactive” before naming the code. A PODS blog post dated August 19, 2025 says “Active, retired, and veteran members of the military receive a PODS military discount.” Neither page says what proof PODS asks for, so have your ID card or DD Form 214 ready when you call.

The dollar math on a deployment

PODS publishes a starting price, not your price. Its cost page lists your driveway versus an indoor PODS facility as one factor in the price, and prints no separate figure for a Storage Center. Use $149 a month as the illustration and replace it with your quote.

A 12-month deployment at the starting price. Twelve months at $149 is $1,788. SERV10 cuts that by $178.80. Add about $7.50 off the $74.99 average delivery fee and the first year saves roughly $186. PODS’s promotions page, read October 19, 2026, lists Storage Center offers for three-, six- and 12-month commitments, the longest at up to 25% off standard rates plus free delivery and re-delivery, and none can be combined with SERV10, so price SERV10 against them before you book a deployment.

The line the code skips. The lowest Contents Protection tier PODS lists, $38.95 a month for $5,000 of declared value, costs $467.40 over the same 12 months. The SERV10 terms do not list it, so assume it bills at full price.

The renewal-date trap. PODS rents by the month only, and its billing page says rent is charged “on the same day each month as your original delivery date,” with each container on its own cycle. Deliver on the 10th and the 10th is your bill date. Keep the container one day past it and you owe another month: $134.10 with SERV10 at the illustration price. PODS’s FAQ says that if its calendar is full on the pickup date you want, call (855) 706-4758 before the renewal date and it will help you pick a new date and avoid an extra monthly charge.

Order changes that cost $150

Orders change on short notice, and PODS’s cancellation policy prices the change. You can cancel at no cost by chat or phone by 4 p.m. local time, at least three days before the first delivery. After that, the fee is $150. Email, social media, and voicemail are not accepted. Cancel after the first delivery and the delivery fee, first month’s rent, and any Contents Protection are charged and nonrefundable.

A second $150 risk applies at a base. PODS charges for an attempted service it cannot finish because of circumstances caused by you, capped at $150, and its example is a delivery site that does not meet PODS’s placement requirements. Ask PODS for its placement requirements in writing; none of the PODS pages read for this article gives a rule about installation gates. PODS’s August 12, 2025 announcement says it “currently services approximately 283 military installations across the continental U.S. and Hawaii,” a count that may have changed since. Ask the housing office where a container may sit before you book the date.

Weight tickets for a PPM

PODS says it will obtain PPM and DITY weight tickets for you on request, and its billing FAQ says to put the empty and full tickets on your quote or tell the agent you are doing a DITY move. The same announcement says PODS has outfitted locations with certified in-house weight scales. None of the PODS pages read for this article lists a fee for tickets, so ask for it in writing before you book.

Military OneSource adds the government side. Its PCS FAQ, read October 19, 2026, says a portable storage container can be used for a PPM, “but you need to make sure you tell the delivering company to weigh the container empty before drop-off,” and that you must submit full and empty tickets. It also gives you 45 days from the planned move start date to turn in your paperwork. For the rest of the PPM budget, including the incentive itself, read PCS money moves.

If the rent stops while you serve

PODS’s containers and storage FAQ, read October 19, 2026, points to “your rental agreement” for the excluded-items list and coverage rules, but none of the PODS pages read for this article shows the agreement itself. Ask for a copy before delivery and find the default section.

PODS does run lien sales. In a notice of public lien sale posted October 29, 2024 in the legal notices of the Northern Nevada Business Weekly, PODS Enterprises said it “will sell or otherwise dispose of the contents of containers belonging to certain customers that owe PODS rent,” with the auction held online. For a service member, federal law changes that ending. Under § 3958, no lienholder may sell a servicemember’s goods until a judge signs an order, from the first day of service until 90 days past the last, and under § 3958(b) the judge can also stay the case or adjust the debt. The site’s guide to storage liens under the SCRA has the details of that court step. A Guard or Reserve member’s protection starts when the orders arrive, not on the report date, under § 3917(a); the reserve-component coverage page has more.

Payment is the first line of defense. PODS announced on August 12, 2025 that it had become a MILITARY STAR card merchant; the MILITARY STAR card page covers what that card does when you deploy. Whatever card you use, make sure it will not expire mid-deployment, and set autopay through an associate after you log in, as PODS’s FAQ describes.

Set up a PODS order before a PCS or deployment

  1. Enter SERV10 in the Promotional Code box when you run the quote, or give it to the agent at (866) 556-9574. Confirm the 10% shows on the order confirmation before the container arrives.
  2. If you are doing a PPM, put empty and full weight tickets on the quote, ask what PODS charges for them, and make sure the container is weighed empty before drop-off.
  3. Get the housing office’s approval for where the container will sit, so a failed placement does not cost you up to $150.
  4. Write down your delivery date. That date is your monthly bill date, and pickup should happen before it, not after.
  5. Set autopay on a card or account that stays open and funded the whole time, and sign a power of attorney so a spouse or parent can run the account; the military spouse and family page explains its limits.
  6. Ask Customer Care at (855) 706-4758 where written notices go, then send your orders plus proof of active-duty status from the DMDC certificate site. Keep copies.
  7. If a lien or sale notice reaches you or your family, respond in writing that federal law requires a court order first, and get installation legal assistance on the phone that day. A sale that happened anyway may support a claim; the enforcement options page lists them.
The law behind this: 50 U.S.C. § 3958

Enforcement of storage liens: read the statute , or read § 3958 in plain English, with its enforcement record .

Frequently asked questions

Does PODS offer a military discount?

Yes. PODS's military page, read October 19, 2026, says service members save up to 10% with code SERV10, whether active duty or inactive, online or by phone at (866) 556-9574. The fine print says the offer covers 10% off the initial local delivery, the first month of storage, recurring monthly storage, and long-distance transport between two PODS storage centers. It excludes extended delivery fees and other added charges, cannot be combined with other offers, and runs only at participating locations.

What is the PODS military discount code?

SERV10. PODS's pricing and billing FAQ says to reference promo code SERV10 when you run a quote online or call an agent. Enter it in the Promotional Code box on the quote form. Two timing rules from PODS's own pages matter: the offer terms say the code must be provided at the time of order, and the FAQ says promotional codes cannot be applied after the container has already been delivered. A code you remember on moving day is too late.

Does the PODS military discount apply to storage?

Yes, to the rent. The SERV10 terms on PODS's military page list the first month's storage and recurring monthly storage charges. On PODS's published starting price of $149 a month, 10% is $14.90 a month. The terms do not list Contents Protection, which PODS prices from $38.95 a month for $5,000 of declared value up to $516.95 a month for $300,000, so budget that line at the full price unless your quote shows otherwise.

Will PODS get weight tickets for my PPM?

PODS says yes, on request. Its military page says it will obtain PPM and DITY weight tickets for you, and its billing FAQ says active military who need empty and full weight tickets should put them on the quote or tell the agent it is a DITY move. To get a ticket sent to you afterward, PODS lists (866) 556-9574. Military OneSource says a portable container works for a PPM only if the company weighs it empty before drop-off, and that full and empty tickets are required.

Can PODS auction my container if rent goes unpaid during deployment?

Only with a judge's order first. Section 3958 of Title 50 bars any lienholder from enforcing a lien against a servicemember's belongings while the member serves and for the 90 days that follow, absent a prior court order. PODS does run lien sales for unpaid rent: in October 2024 PODS Enterprises posted a notice of public lien sale in a Nevada business weekly saying it would sell or otherwise dispose of the contents of containers belonging to customers who owed rent. The rent still accrues.
