LA Fitness Military: $10 Freeze or a Fee-Free Exit on Orders
Part of: The Complete Guide to the SCRA
LA Fitness posts no military discount on its membership, contact, corporate, or rate pages, so the dollars in a PCS or deployment sit in its contract terms instead: a $10 monthly freeze, a last month’s dues you prepaid at signup, a $69 annual fee at the Woodbridge, Virginia club, and a termination fee on any agreement with an initial term of three months or more. Federal law removes that last fee when orders move you. Under 50 U.S.C. § 3956(e)(1), a gym may not impose an early termination charge on a membership ended under the statute. Which tool to use, the freeze or the termination, depends on whether you are coming back.
No military rate on lafitness.com
On October 9, 2026 these LA Fitness pages contained no reference to military pricing: Membership Questions, Contact Us, Corporate Programs, the site map, and the site terms. The online rate page for the Woodbridge club, a short drive from Marine Corps Base Quantico and Fort Belvoir, listed three plans and no military option.
| Woodbridge, VA plan | Monthly | Initiation | Annual fee | Initial term |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic, club of enrollment | $24.99 | $99 | $69 | N/A, auto-renews |
| Basic, club of enrollment | $34.99 | $0 | $69 | N/A, auto-renews |
| Classic, nationwide access | $44.99 | $0 | $69 | N/A, auto-renews |
Read on lafitness.com October 9, 2026. Each plan collects first and last month’s dues at signup, and the annual fee bills 14 days after enrollment and every year after.
The site, the rate pages, and the central cancellation address all belong to one company, Fitness International, LLC. The rate page still says offers may differ by club, so a front desk may have something the website does not. If one is offered, have it written on the agreement.
LA Fitness’s cancellation rules next to § 3956
The statute applies to a gym membership signed before you received orders to relocate for 90 days or more to a place the contract does not support, or, since 2023, to one signed after PCS orders and then blocked by a stop-movement order. The general § 3956 explainer has the rule for every provider, and the eligibility guide sorts out whose status counts. LA Fitness’s own Membership Questions page sets the terms below.
| Topic | LA Fitness’s published rule | What § 3956 adds |
|---|---|---|
| Month-to-month plans | Cancel any time by mail, in person, or online | Notice plus a copy of orders and an end date, (a)(3) |
| Mailed notice | Postmark 5 business days before the bill date, or one more charge may post and be refunded | Gym keeps only the billing period you end in, (f) |
| Initial term of 3+ months | Cancellation takes effect when the term ends; leaving sooner brings a termination fee | No early termination charge, (e)(1) |
| Prepaid last month | Applied to the month after your final payment, so you keep access through it | Money paid for time after your end date comes back within 60 days, (f) |
| Freeze | $10 a month on monthly dues; $5 per biweekly billing; Paid in Full up to 6 months for $35 | Not addressed; the freeze is LA Fitness’s own option |
LA Fitness column read October 9, 2026; § 3956 read the same day, 2024 edition on GovInfo.
Two rows matter most. The termination fee is the one a member in an initial term actually pays, and LA Fitness does not print the amount; whatever your agreement says, § 3956(e)(1) sets it at zero. The prepaid last month is the quiet one. LA Fitness’s policy lets you use it after you cancel, which is fine for a civilian moving across town and useless for someone reporting to a ship. Under § 3956(f) a payment covering time after your termination date is refunded within 60 days, so ask for the money instead of the access.
Freeze or terminate: a seven-month deployment, priced
Take a Marine at Quantico on the Woodbridge Basic plan: $24.99 a month, joined with the $99 initiation fee. Deployment orders arrive for seven months, with a return to the same base.
| Option | Cost while deployed | Rate when you return |
|---|---|---|
| Keep paying | 7 x $24.99 = $174.93 | $24.99 |
| Freeze | 7 x $10 = $70 | $24.99, unchanged |
| End it under § 3956 | $0, and the prepaid $24.99 last month refunded | Whatever the club charges then |
The table leaves out the $69 annual fee, which bills each year the membership stays open; LA Fitness’s freeze rules do not say whether a freeze pauses it. Ask for the freeze more than 10 days before your next billing date, or it starts a month later.
On October 9, 2026, a new member at Woodbridge paid either $24.99 with the $99 initiation fee or $34.99 with none. Rejoining at $34.99 costs $10 a month more than the old rate, $120 a year. Section 3956(e)(2) bars a charge for reinstating service if you come back within 90 days after the relocation ends, which is your argument against the $99, but the statute does not lock in your old monthly price.
The math points one way for a round-trip deployment on an older, cheaper rate: freeze, spend $70, keep the rate. It points the other way for a PCS, one of several PCS money moves worth making before you sign out. LA Fitness itself suggests that a relocating member look for a club in the new area, which only works if there is one.
Nationwide access, and where LA Fitness has no clubs
The online join page listed clubs in 25 states plus Alberta and Ontario on October 9, 2026: Arizona, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Washington. Orders to Colorado, Hawaii, Alaska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Missouri, or Nevada take you to a state with no LA Fitness on that list, which is the clearest case of a location that does not support the contract.
A Basic plan is tied to its club of enrollment, so any move out of the area leaves it unusable. The Classic plan is different: it includes all LA Fitness and City Sports Clubs nationwide. A Classic member moving from Virginia to North Carolina still has LA Fitness clubs in that state, though not necessarily near the gate, and the statute does not say whether that counts as support. If the new station has a club you would use, keep the membership; if not, say so in your notice.
Cancel LA Fitness on orders
Terminate an LA Fitness membership under § 3956
- Pull your membership agreement and check the initial term. The Woodbridge online plans showed none; in-club plans and training agreements may have one.
- Write a notice with your name, barcode or member number, club, the end date you want, and “I am terminating under 50 U.S.C. § 3956. Refund my prepaid last month under § 3956(f).” The letter generator drafts the gym version.
- Enclose a copy of the orders showing a relocation or deployment of 90 days or more.
- Mail it by certified mail to LA Fitness, P.O. Box 54170, Irvine, CA 92619, postmarked at least 5 business days before your next billing date. Keep the receipt.
- If you also cancel in your online account or at the front desk, send the letter anyway so the orders and the § 3956 basis are on file.
- Watch two numbers: no termination fee on the final statement, and the prepaid last month back within 60 days. Dispute either in writing.
Service contract early termination charges have their own line in the DOJ violations ranking, and a gym that keeps drafting after a lawful termination is the small-dollar version of that case.
Personal training agreements
LA Fitness’s cancellation language covers “membership, personal training or other agreement” with an initial term of three months or more, and says a termination fee applies when you leave early. Section 3956(b)(1)(E) covers “a gym membership or fitness program.” The statute does not define fitness program, but a training package sold by the gym, for use in the gym, is a natural fit. List the training agreement in the same notice and ask for the unused sessions or months to be refunded under § 3956(f).
Deploying soon? The deployment financial readiness checklist covers the allotments and powers of attorney, and the same orders can end a car lease without the early-termination charge.

Frequently asked questions
Does LA Fitness have a military discount?
Not one it publishes. On October 9, 2026, LA Fitness's membership questions page, contact page, corporate programs page, and site terms had no mention of military pricing, and the online rate page for the Woodbridge, Virginia club near Quantico and Fort Belvoir showed none. Its site belongs to one company, Fitness International, LLC, and says other offers may be available at a club, so ask at the front desk before you sign. Bring your ID and get any rate in writing on the agreement.
What is the LA Fitness military discount price?
LA Fitness publishes no military price. The prices it does publish for the Woodbridge, Virginia club on October 9, 2026 were $24.99 a month with a $99 initiation fee, $34.99 a month with no initiation fee, or $44.99 a month for nationwide access, each with a $69 annual fee billed 14 days after you join. Each of those plans collects the first and last month's dues at signup. Compare any military offer a club makes against those numbers.
Can I cancel LA Fitness on military orders?
Yes, when the orders relocate you for at least 90 days to a place the membership cannot serve and you joined before receiving them. 50 U.S.C. § 3956(b)(1)(E) covers gym memberships, and § 3956(e)(1) bars any early termination charge. That reaches the termination fee LA Fitness says applies when you leave an agreement with an initial term of three months or more before the term ends. Send written notice, the orders, and the end date you want.
Should I freeze or cancel LA Fitness before a deployment?
If you will come back to the same club and you pay a rate lower than what the club charges new members, the freeze usually wins: LA Fitness charges $10 a month for monthly dues members and keeps your membership as it is. If the orders move you to a state with no LA Fitness, or your rate is already the going rate, terminating under § 3956 carries no termination fee and returns any prepaid last month within 60 days.
Where do I mail an LA Fitness cancellation?
LA Fitness's membership questions page gives P.O. Box 54170, Irvine, CA 92619, and recommends registered or certified mail with a record kept for your files. A notice postmarked at least 5 business days before your next billing date should stop further billing; a later one may produce one more charge, which LA Fitness says it will refund. You can also cancel in person at a club or through your online account. For an orders-based termination, enclose a copy of the orders.
