AAA Insurance Military Discount: None on 3 Club Lists; Dues Vary
Part of: The Complete Guide to the SCRA
There is no single AAA military discount, because there is no single AAA. The national site, aaa.com, calls AAA “a federation of regional clubs” and sends you to your club by ZIP code; it prints no military offer of its own. So this page names the seven clubs whose pages were read on October 16, 2026, and keeps each club’s terms with that club: the Automobile Club of Southern California, AAA Mountain West Group, The Auto Club Group, AAA Washington, AAA Club Alliance, AAA Minneapolis and AAA South Jersey. How far a parked car’s coverage can shrink, by ownership and by state, is on the deployment car insurance page.
Military deals on dues, club by club
| Club | Serves | Military membership terms |
|---|---|---|
| AAA Washington | Washington and Northern Idaho | 15% off for “all active military members”: Classic $63.75, Plus $97.75, Premier $131.75 a year; $20 enrollment fee waived |
| AAA Minneapolis | Hennepin County and nearby cities | Active duty, Reserve and National Guard with a current military ID: Basic $55 new, $63 at renewal; phone or office only |
| AAA South Jersey | Camden, Gloucester, Salem and Cumberland counties | $15 off the basic portion of dues; active, reserve and retired with military ID; code AF19 |
| AAA Club Alliance | Not stated on the offer page; its store footnote names Mid-Atlantic, Oklahoma and South Dakota | Its military web address forwards to a Heroes Membership: a free first-year upgrade to Plus for new members; the page does not say who qualifies |
| AAA Mountain West Group | Alaska, Arizona, Northern California, Montana, Nevada, Utah, Wyoming | ”Does not offer a military or senior discount on Membership at this time” |
All read October 16, 2026.
Three practical points follow. First, claiming differs: AAA Washington offers existing members a “Claim your discount here” link, AAA Minneapolis says its offer is “not available online” and runs through 952-927-2567, and AAA South Jersey wants the AF19 code plus military credentials. Second, stale codes circulate. Mountain West’s old military-offer address now forwards to a membership page that says there is no military discount. Third, Club Alliance’s Heroes offer is for new members only; “current AAA members are not eligible,” and standard dues apply after the first year.
Insurance lists: three clubs, no military line
The insurance side is where the bigger dollars are, and no list read has a military discount on it. The Automobile Club of Southern California, which serves 13 counties including San Diego, prints nine auto discounts for California drivers. AAA Mountain West Group prints five. The Auto Club Group, which serves Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Dakota, South Carolina, Tennessee, Wisconsin and Puerto Rico, lists participatory and household discounts on a page it dates as of July 1, 2022; that page was served for Michigan. Here is what the lines that matter on orders are worth at most on an illustrative $1,500-a-year policy.
| Club and discount | Printed rate | At most, on $1,500 |
|---|---|---|
| Southern California: military | None listed | $0 |
| Southern California: verified mileage, from odometer readings “when requested” | Up to 19.1% | $286.50 |
| Southern California: loyalty, after one year continuous with the Exchange | Up to 5.6% | $84 |
| Mountain West: active AAA membership | Up to 5% | $75 |
| The Auto Club Group: membership, by years as a member | No rate printed | Ask |
The dollar column assumes each rate reaches the whole premium. The Southern California club warns that discounts “may apply to select coverages,” so treat each figure as a ceiling. Verified mileage is the one built for a deployment: a car that sits logs almost no miles, but someone has to send the odometer reading when asked. Loyalty is the one a cancellation can reset, because it counts continuous insurance with the Exchange. A 2017 Automobile Club of Missouri quote-tool help file, still online, lists a 10% discount on liability and collision for unmarried children under 25 who are at school, or who have “joined the military and are stationed more than 100 miles away from home”; that club’s web address now forwards to ace.aaa.com, the site the Southern California club uses, and the current California list there offers its away discount to students only. The Auto Club Group’s list does carry an Education/Occupation discount “based on your attained education and occupation,” and the Southern California list offers up to 7.4% “for qualifying professions”; ask whether military service counts for either. And in Louisiana a military premium cut is law for every auto insurer, AAA’s included: R.S. 22:1482 (read October 16, 2026) sets 25% of the auto liability premium for Louisiana-based active duty, reservists and Louisiana Guard members, and the state’s regulation narrows who qualifies, as the deployment page explains.
Keep the membership paid while you are gone
At AAA, the membership and the policy travel together. The Southern California club says a separate purchase of AAA membership is “generally required to obtain and renew AAA insurance.” Mountain West members save up to 5% on AAA insurance. The Auto Club Group’s membership discount “rewards you based on the number of years you’ve been a AAA member.” AAA Club Alliance, which places policies with several carriers including CSAA Insurance Group, counts “membership, membership loyalty, persistency” among the discounts its customers commonly receive. Let the dues lapse during a deployment and you risk the renewal and the tenure behind those discounts, all to save a year of dues. Set the membership to renew automatically, and give a spouse, or anyone you have named in a power of attorney, authority to handle both accounts; the deployment financial readiness checklist covers that paperwork.
No club page read offers a way to suspend a policy or rate a car as stored. The Auto Club Group’s collision article says a car kept “in storage” and not driven “may not require collision insurance,” which is the general case for cutting a parked car to comprehensive. A financed or leased car is different: a loan or lease usually obliges you to carry both comprehensive and collision until it is paid off or returned, so ask the lender in writing before cutting anything. Separately, an auto loan you signed before active duty can have its interest held to 6% under the SCRA.
PCS and overseas: a new club can mean a new insurer
The insurer behind the AAA name changes at club and state lines. AAA Washington’s products are underwritten by Auto Club MAPFRE Insurance Company. The Southern California club’s site names the Interinsurance Exchange of the Automobile Club for California, Hawaii, New Mexico, Maine, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Vermont, other affiliates for Texas, Louisiana and several Midwestern and Southern states, and says its insurance is not available in New York. A PCS from San Diego to Tacoma, Washington, moves you from the Exchange to Auto Club MAPFRE, so quote the new club before you move rather than assuming the policy follows.
Overseas, none of the club insurance pages read says where an AAA auto policy applies outside the United States. Check your policy’s coverage-territory wording, and budget for host-country insurance before driving in Germany, Italy, Japan or Korea. Two SCRA sections touch the car itself, never the premium. A § 3955 lease termination is open to you when, after you signed the lease, you receive PCS orders from the lower 48 or D.C. to a post abroad, or deployment orders of 180 days or more; return the vehicle within 15 days of your written notice, as the car lease termination guide sets out. And under § 3958, a lot owner owed storage fees cannot auction your car during service, or in the 90 days after it, unless a court orders it first; the storage lien page covers that.
Work AAA membership and insurance around orders
- Find your club by ZIP code at aaa.com, then read that club’s own military membership terms; do not use another club’s code.
- Ask the club’s insurance agent in writing whether any military discount applies; the three lists read show none outside Louisiana’s state-law discount.
- Before deploying, set membership to renew automatically so the policy can renew and membership tenure keeps counting.
- Ask about verified mileage or a comprehensive-only price for the parked car; keep what a lender requires.
- Leasing the car and holding qualifying orders? Use the lease termination calculator before the car goes into storage.
- PCS to another club’s territory: get the new club’s quote before the move and cancel the old policy the day the new one starts.
The law behind this: 50 U.S.C. § 3955
Termination of residential or motor vehicle leases: read the statute , or read § 3955 in plain English, with its enforcement record .
Frequently asked questions
Does AAA offer a military discount on car insurance?
Not on the three club discount lists read October 16, 2026. The Automobile Club of Southern California lists nine auto discounts for California drivers, from multi-vehicle to car club, and none is military. AAA Mountain West Group lists five, and The Auto Club Group lists participatory and household discounts with no military line. Louisiana is the exception for every auto insurer: state law, R.S. 22:1482, requires a 25% discount on auto liability premium for Louisiana-based active duty, reservists, and Louisiana Guard members, as narrowed by the state's regulation. Elsewhere, ask your club's agent in writing, because each club's insurer files its own rates.
Does AAA offer a military discount on membership?
Some clubs do and some say they do not. AAA Washington, which serves Washington and Northern Idaho, advertises 15% off membership for active military, with Classic at $63.75 a year and the $20 enrollment fee waived. AAA Minneapolis prices military memberships for active duty, Reserve, and National Guard members by phone or in person. AAA South Jersey takes $15 off the basic portion of dues for active, reserve, and retired members with military ID. AAA Mountain West Group states that it "does not offer a military or senior discount on Membership at this time." All read October 16, 2026.
What is the AAA military discount code?
Of the club military pages read on October 16, 2026, only AAA South Jersey prints a code: its $15 dues discount says "Must use code AF19" and requires military ID. AAA Washington uses a claim link for existing members instead of a code. AAA Minneapolis says its military offer is not available online and must be arranged at 952-927-2567 or an office. A code from a coupon site can point at an offer that has ended: AAA Mountain West's old military-offer web address now forwards to a membership page that says it has no military discount.
Do I need to keep my AAA membership to keep AAA car insurance while deployed?
At the Automobile Club of Southern California, yes in general: its auto insurance page, read October 16, 2026, says a separate purchase of AAA membership is "generally required to obtain and renew AAA insurance." Membership also feeds the premium. Mountain West members save up to 5%, The Auto Club Group's membership discount grows with the number of years you have been a member, and AAA Club Alliance counts membership loyalty among its commonly realized discounts. Put the membership on automatic renewal before you leave, or give someone with a power of attorney the job.
Does AAA car insurance cover me if I PCS overseas?
None of the club insurance pages read on October 16, 2026 says where AAA car coverage reaches abroad, so check where your own policy says coverage applies before you ship a car. Expect to need a host-country policy to drive in Germany, Italy, Japan, or Korea. The insurer behind the AAA name also changes by state, and the Southern California club says its insurance is not available in New York, so a PCS between club territories can mean a new insurer even if you stay with AAA.
