Allstate Military: No Listed Discount, Storage Suspense From Day 1

Allstate does not publish a military discount. What it does publish is a precise storage rule, two full policy forms, and a Michigan rate disclosure that mentions deployment by name, and those documents shape what a deploying or PCSing Allstate customer pays. Each was read on Allstate’s own sites on October 10, 2026. The general case for cutting coverage on a parked car, and what a lender or lease requires, is on the deployment car insurance page. Here is what Allstate’s paperwork adds.

Storage suspense: qualify at 30 days, save from day 1

Allstate’s storage article sets a 30-day test and then lets the saving start at once: “Suspense can start on day 1 of storage time.” Read literally, a deployment with a known start date does not cost you a month of liability and collision while the car waits to qualify. Call before the car goes in and give the agent the storage date.

The stored vehicle guide names a military deployment as a reason to store, and lists liability, collision, and uninsured motorist as the lines that can come off while comprehensive stays for theft, vandalism, storms, and animals. Its rules on use are strict. Asked whether you can drive the car occasionally during storage, Allstate answers “No,” and the storage article warns against taking the car out “even for a short ride while the liability coverage on your policy is suspended.” If a spouse or roommate will need the car, it is not a stored car. Who can act on the policy for you is covered on the spouses and families page.

A financed car is the limit. Allstate’s article says the lender “may require both collision and comprehensive coverage until the loan is paid off.” If that loan predates active duty, the 6% rate cap is a separate saving worth claiming while the car sits. If it sits in a paid lot, § 3958 bars the operator from selling it for an unpaid storage bill during service and for 90 days after without a court order; see the storage lien page.

Overseas: the forms stop at the territory line

Allstate posts complete auto policy forms, and both read for this page use the same territory. Form AIU492-1, a Pennsylvania form, applies to losses and accidents “within the United States of America, its territories or possessions or Canada, or between their ports.” Form ACR65 uses nearly identical words. The Pennsylvania form makes one exception: its uninsured and underinsured motorists coverages apply “anywhere in the world.” Your state’s form may differ, so read the “When And Where The Policy Applies” section of your own policy.

In practice, orders to Guam or Puerto Rico stay inside that wording. Orders to Germany, Italy, Japan, or Korea do not, and Allstate’s international article says your personal policy “typically” will not cover you abroad. A car shipped OCONUS needs host-country coverage before it is driven there. If the car is leased, an OCONUS PCS is a lease termination trigger under § 3955; the car then comes off the Allstate policy under Allstate’s terms, not the SCRA’s.

Cancelling: in writing, and the lender is told

Pennsylvania form AIU492-1 says: “You may cancel this policy by writing and telling us at what future date you wish to stop coverage.” A refund, if due, is figured under the rules and rates Allstate has on file in your state, and it may arrive after the cancellation takes effect. Unearned premium “under $2.00” is refunded only if you ask. Both forms carry a loss payable clause that names a listed lienholder or lessor, and when Allstate cancels, it notifies that lender “at least ten days prior” to the cancellation taking effect as to the lender’s interest. On a financed car, call the lender before you cancel anything; the loan contract decides what follows. Your own state’s form may word all of this differently.

Michigan’s deployment rule, and the Louisiana discount

Allstate Fire and Casualty’s Michigan premium disclosure says rates vary by whether you kept auto liability insurance for the 12 months before buying, then adds that “those deployed in the military will be treated as continuously insured if deployed outside of the United States and if they had coverage immediately prior to the deployment.” No other Allstate page read for this article states that rule, so outside Michigan, ask before you count on it.

In Louisiana, state law requires a military discount of Allstate and every other authorized auto insurer. La. R.S. 22:1482 says every authorized auto insurer “shall provide” Louisiana-based active duty, reservist, and Louisiana Guard members “twenty-five percent of the premium on any automobile liability insurance policy” on vehicles they own. The Department of Insurance’s Regulation 81 (Louisiana Administrative Code Title 37, § 9509 and § 9511, September 2026 edition) limits it to members “serving on full time active duty status,” Reserve and Guard included on those terms, and applies it only to the liability, medical payments, and uninsured motorist premium. You claim it on the Louisiana Application for Military Discount with your PCS orders. See the Louisiana page for the state’s other rules.

The day 1 rule in dollars

Take an illustrative $120-a-month policy: $60 liability, $40 collision, $20 comprehensive. Your split is on your declarations page. The car is owned outright and sits for a nine-month deployment.

ScenarioMonthly costNine months
Full coverage left on$120$1,080
Suspense from day 1 (Allstate’s rule)$20$180
Suspense only after a 30-day wait$120, then $20$280
Cancelled outright$0$0, plus a gap in your record

Day-1 suspense saves $900 against leaving the policy alone, and $100 against starting suspense on day 31. Cancelling saves $180 more but leaves the car with no theft or hail coverage and breaks your insurance history. Allstate’s stored vehicle guide says your rate should not go up after storage “if you’ve maintained a continuous policy.”

Set up an Allstate policy for deployment or PCS

  1. Call your Allstate agent and give the exact date the car goes into storage, so suspense starts on day 1.
  2. Ask to suspend liability, collision, and uninsured motorist and keep comprehensive. Financed? Get the lender’s required coverages in writing first.
  3. Louisiana-based: ask for the state military discount under La. R.S. 22:1482 and send your orders.
  4. OCONUS orders: buy host-country coverage before the car is driven abroad, and check your policy’s territory section. Leased car? Run the lease termination calculator.
  5. Cancelling: send it in writing with a future date, as the Pennsylvania form requires, and ask for any unearned premium; that form refunds amounts under $2.00 only on request.
  6. Before anyone drives the car again, restore liability and collision and get new ID cards.
The law behind this: 50 U.S.C. § 3955

Termination of residential or motor vehicle leases: read the statute , or read § 3955 in plain English, with its enforcement record .

Frequently asked questions

Does Allstate have a military discount?

Not one it publishes. Allstate's car insurance discounts page, read October 10, 2026, lists anti-lock brake, anti-theft device, responsible payer, and good student discounts, plus bundling and its Drivewise program. None is for service members. Allstate Fire and Casualty's Michigan premium disclosure lists its own longer set, from the Multiple Policy Discount to the Safe Driving Club, and none of those is military either. In Louisiana the answer changes by law: R.S. 22:1482 requires every authorized auto insurer to give Louisiana-based active duty, reservist, and Louisiana Guard members 25% of the premium on an auto liability policy, and the state's Regulation 81 limits it to members on full-time active duty and to the liability, medical payments, and uninsured motorist premium.

Can I suspend Allstate car insurance while deployed?

You can suspend parts of it. Allstate's car storage article, read October 10, 2026, says a car stored 30 days or more may have liability and collision suspended while comprehensive stays on, and that "suspense can start on day 1 of storage time." Its stored vehicle guide names a military deployment as a reason to do this and lists uninsured motorist as another line that can come off. It also answers "No" to using the car occasionally during storage: restore the other coverages before anyone drives it. A financed car may need collision kept until the loan is paid off.

Does Allstate cover my car overseas?

Not under the policy forms Allstate publishes. Its auto policy forms ACR65 and AIU492-1, both posted on Allstate's content site and read October 10, 2026, apply to losses and accidents within the United States, its territories or possessions, and Canada. AIU492-1 is a Pennsylvania form, so treat both as samples. Allstate's international car insurance article says your personal policy typically will not cover you abroad. A station in Guam or Puerto Rico falls inside that territory wording; Germany, Italy, Japan, and Korea do not. Buy host-country coverage for any car you drive there, and check your own policy's "When And Where The Policy Applies" section.

Does a deployment gap raise my Allstate rate?

Allstate addresses it only in a Michigan document. Allstate Fire and Casualty's Michigan premium disclosure, read October 10, 2026, says rates vary with whether you kept auto liability insurance for the 12 months before buying the policy, and that "those deployed in the military will be treated as continuously insured if deployed outside of the United States and if they had coverage immediately prior to the deployment." Outside Michigan, no Allstate page read for this article states the rule. The safer route everywhere is to keep the car on comprehensive-only coverage rather than cancel, which keeps the record unbroken.

How do I cancel Allstate car insurance before a PCS?

In writing, with a future date. Allstate's published Pennsylvania auto policy form AIU492-1, read October 10, 2026, says: "You may cancel this policy by writing and telling us at what future date you wish to stop coverage." Any refund is calculated under the rules and rates Allstate has on file in your state, and unearned premium under $2.00 is refunded only on request. Both forms name a listed lienholder or lessor in a loss payable clause, and say Allstate notifies that lender at least ten days before a cancellation takes effect as to its interest. On a financed car, talk to the lender before you cancel.
