Subaru Military Discount: $500, but Get the VIP Form First
Part of: The Complete Guide to the SCRA
Subaru’s military discount is $500 off the negotiated price of a new Subaru, and the order you do things in can cost you all of it. Subaru’s VIP program rules, read October 16, 2026, require a VIP Retailer Visit Authorization Form “prior to contacting a retailer.” Walk onto the lot first, start talking numbers, and request the form afterward, and Subaru’s own FAQ says the program “is not applicable.”
The program is Subaru of America’s VIP Military Program. You reach it from subaru.com/military, which links to Subaru’s VIP portal on subarunet.com, a page carrying the Subaru of America copyright. Verification runs through ID.me only.
Subaru’s VIP Military terms
| Rule | Subaru’s wording or figure (read October 16, 2026) |
|---|---|
| Discount | $500 off the negotiated price, purchase or lease |
| Who qualifies | Active duty and reserves, all military retirees, veterans within 24 months of separation |
| Household | Member, or spouse or domestic partner at the same address |
| Verification | ID.me, “mandatory” |
| Proof to the dealer | VIP Retailer Visit Authorization Form, sent to you and the retailer |
| Form life | 45 days from issue; renew by email |
| Limit | Two vehicles per calendar year; one VIP offer per vehicle |
| Vehicles | New, never titled, generally under 500 miles; no demos or used cars |
| Other money | Regional retailer or customer incentives “may further reduce the price” |
| End date | None printed |
The absent end date is unusual. Most automaker programs this site read on October 16, 2026 printed one. Subaru’s page simply describes the program, so check it again before you sign.
Two Subaru pages, two orders of events
Subaru’s consumer page and its program rules disagree on timing. Subaru.com/military says: “After negotiating your best price with a Subaru retailer, you’ll receive the extra $500 military discount plus any current zone or regional cash incentives.” The VIP FAQ says participants “must obtain a VIP Retailer Visit Authorization Form prior to contacting a retailer,” and that the special pricing “does not apply to sales made prior to the receipt of the approved VIP form.”
Read together, they fit only one way: get the form, then contact the retailer, then negotiate, and the $500 comes off whatever price you reach. The VIP FAQ is the program’s own rulebook, and it is the stricter of the two, so follow it. If you already emailed a dealer for a quote, Subaru’s wording about negotiations “currently underway” is a risk. Request the form anyway and consider starting fresh with another retailer, since Subaru will reissue the form for a different retailer before you finalize.
ID.me, the 45-day clock and two cars a year
ID.me comes first. Subaru’s FAQ says anyone without an ID.me account must create one and make sure it “accurately reflects their eligibility.” Once verified, Subaru of America sends the authorization form to you and forwards a copy to the retailer.
Then the clock starts. Forms “expire 45 days from the date issued.” A form issued October 20 runs out around December 4. That is half the 90 days GM gives its authorization numbers, as the Chevrolet military discount page details. Request the form when you are ready to shop, not months ahead. If it lapses, email vipprogram@subaru.com with your VIP Authorization Number to renew.
The household rules are tight. A spouse or domestic partner at the same address can use the form; parents, siblings and children cannot. The limit is two leases or purchases per calendar year, and only one VIP offer per vehicle, so the military discount does not stack with another VIP program such as an educator offer.
The same offer from Norfolk to Anchorage, with one gap
Subaru’s military discount is not set by ZIP code, so this page checked what does change by place. On October 16, 2026 it ran Subaru’s dealer search and offers lookup for 22 installation ZIPs, grouped here by the dealer region code Subaru’s own data returned:
| Subaru dealer region | ZIPs read |
|---|---|
| 010 | 06340 New London; 01731 Hanscom Air Force Base |
| 020 | 13602 Fort Drum |
| 050 | 23511 Norfolk; 20755 Fort Meade; 22134 Quantico; 08640 Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst; 42223 Fort Campbell; 29207 Fort Jackson; 28310 Fort Bragg; 31905 Fort Benning; 32542 Eglin |
| 060 | 66442 Fort Riley; 79916 Fort Bliss; 76544 Fort Hood |
| 080 | 99505 JBER; 98433 JBLM; 84056 Hill; 80913 Fort Carson; 92136 San Diego; 92055 Camp Pendleton; 96857 Schofield Barracks |
The public offers shifted a little by region. The 2026 Solterra lease, for one, was $435 a month at the Pacific ZIPs read (California, Washington and Alaska dealers) and $475 everywhere else, and the Connecticut and Massachusetts dealers carry an extra flag in Subaru’s data. None of those offer lists carried a military line, because the VIP discount sits outside them and stays $500. The one real gap is Hawaii. Subaru’s dealer search for Schofield Barracks returned no Hawaii retailer at all; the nearest it listed was in Eureka, California, 2,387 miles away, and Subaru’s lease offers, the 2026 Forester’s included, say “Not available in HI.” If you are stationed in Hawaii, email vipprogram@subaru.com before you shop and ask whether any island retailer will honor a VIP form.
$500 on Subaru’s own finance rates
Subaru’s offers for October 2026, through November 2, give real numbers. Select 2026 Outback Premium models carried 1.99% APR for 72 months, and Subaru prints the payment as $14.75 per $1,000 borrowed. That APR offer “Cannot be combined with any other coupon, direct/email offer or promotional offer unless allowed by that offer,” and Subaru’s military pages mention zone, regional and customer incentives but not special rates, so ask the retailer before you count on both. If they combine, $500 off the negotiated price means you borrow $500 less: about $7.38 a month, or $531 over the 72 payments.
The 2026 Forester base trim in Subaru’s lease example carries a $31,445 MSRP including freight, so $500 is about 1.6% of the sticker. That is real money, but the negotiated price matters more, because the $500 comes off whatever price you settle on. Shop Subaru’s rate against a preapproval; the military car loans guide lists where service members get one.
Loans, leases and PCS orders
The SCRA does not cap the rate on a Subaru loan you sign while on active duty. Its 6% limit applies only to debts that existed before you entered service, and 32 CFR 232.3(f)(2)(ii), part of the MLA regulation, leaves out financing secured by the car being bought. The MLA vs SCRA explainer sorts which law reaches which debt, and the auto loan rate cap guide covers a car loan from before service.
A lease can end early on orders. If you signed it while serving, § 3955 lets you terminate after receiving PCS orders from the lower 48 to Alaska, Hawaii or overseas, orders out of Alaska or Hawaii, or orders deploying you for 180 days or longer. The lessor cannot add an early termination charge, though mileage and wear stay due. Run the numbers with the lease termination calculator and plan the move with the PCS money guide.
Get the Subaru VIP Military discount in the right order
- Pick your model and timing first. The authorization form expires 45 days after Subaru issues it.

- Wait for the VIP Retailer Visit Authorization Form before you call, email or visit any Subaru retailer.
- Contact the retailer named on the form, show the form, then negotiate the price.
- Confirm the $500 comes off the negotiated price, with any regional or customer incentives listed separately.
- Switching retailers? Email vipprogram@subaru.com to reissue the form before you sign.
The law behind this: 50 U.S.C. § 3937
Why the 6% cap skips a Subaru financed during service: read the statute , or read § 3937 in plain English, with its enforcement record .
Frequently asked questions
How does the Subaru military discount work?
You request it through the Subaru VIP Military Program, linked from subaru.com/military. After ID.me confirms your status, Subaru of America sends a VIP Retailer Visit Authorization Form to you and a copy to the retailer, and the retailer takes $500 off the negotiated price of a new Subaru. Subaru's FAQ, read October 16, 2026, says to get that form before contacting a retailer, and that VIP pricing does not apply to sales made before the form is received. The form lasts 45 days, and you can buy or lease two vehicles a year with it.
Does the Subaru military discount use ID.me?
Yes, and Subaru calls it mandatory. Its VIP program FAQ, read October 16, 2026, says eligible military participants must be verified by ID.me, that ID.me verification is mandatory, and that anyone without an ID.me account must create one and make sure the account reflects their eligibility. Problems with the account go to ID.me support, not to the dealer. Questions about the program itself go to vipprogram@subaru.com, the address Subaru prints on both its military page and its VIP page.
Who is eligible for the Subaru VIP Military Program?
Subaru's VIP page, read October 16, 2026, says those in active duty and reserves, all military retirees, and veterans within 24 months of separation may be eligible. A veteran who separated 25 months ago and did not retire falls outside it. The authorization form can be issued to the eligible member, or to a spouse or domestic partner living in the same household, with address verification. It does not extend to parents, siblings or children, and it cannot be transferred.
Can I get the Subaru military discount if I already started negotiating?
Subaru's VIP FAQ says no. It states the program is not meant to interfere with negotiations already under way with a customer who contacted the retailer without an approved authorization form, that in such situations the program is not applicable, and that VIP pricing does not apply to sales made before the approved form is received. Subaru's consumer military page reads more loosely, so do not test it. Get the form first, then call the dealer.
How long is a Subaru VIP authorization form good for?
Forty-five days from the date issued, according to Subaru's VIP FAQ read October 16, 2026. A form issued October 20 runs out around December 4. To renew, you email the VIP team at vipprogram@subaru.com with the request and your VIP Authorization Number. Subaru will not issue several forms for several retailers, but it can reissue your form for a different retailer before you finalize the sale or lease if you change dealers.
