VASA Fitness Military: No Discount; § 3956 vs. the $25 Cancel Fee
Part of: The Complete Guide to the SCRA
VASA Fitness has no military discount on its site, and its rules put a price on leaving early: a $25 Cancellation Fee inside the first six months, plus any draft that falls in the 30-day notice window. On qualifying orders, federal law strips the first charge and limits the second. The third cost, a $59.99 yearly Rate Guarantee Fee, is a timing problem you can usually solve by acting early.
What VASA posts for service members
Nothing military. On October 10, 2026, the plan tables, the location pages, and the long Rules and Regulations page had no military rate, and vasafitness.com/military returned a 404. The only military item on the site was a 2016 Veterans Day blog post.
VASA’s location list showed open gyms in 10 states: Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Utah, and Wisconsin. Its only Idaho and Ohio listings, in Boise and Dayton, were marked coming soon. Several open gyms sit near installations, including Clinton and Layton outside Hill Air Force Base, four in Colorado Springs (a fifth is coming soon), Bellevue, Nebraska, Tucson, and Oklahoma City. Prices are posted per gym.
| Clinton, Utah plan | Monthly dues | Access |
|---|---|---|
| Basic | $14.99 | One home gym, cardio and weights |
| Fitness | $24.99 | All VASA gyms, pool, classes |
| Studio | $44.99 | All gyms plus studio classes |
Read on VASA’s Clinton page October 10, 2026. The page also showed promotional enrollment fees, which change often, so this page does not rely on them.
The four VASA charges that follow orders
All four come from VASA’s Rules and Regulations page, read October 10, 2026.
Rate Guarantee Fee. VASA’s rules set it at $59.99 as of September 1, 2025. It “locks your monthly rate for the duration of your membership,” bills two months after you join, and bills again every year on that date. A member who joined in January pays it in March, then each March after.
Cancellation Fee. VASA says the $25 fee is “to cover VASA’s expenses in administering this Agreement,” but it applies only to a membership “cancelled prior to six (6) months from the date the Initial Term began.” Employer-subsidized Corporate Wellness plans are exempt.
The notice window. VASA asks for 30 days’ notice, and “any payments set to draft in the 30-day notice period will remain due and collectible.” Dues bill in advance, so a cancel request made a week before your draft date still costs one more month.
Freeze and transfer fees. A freeze runs up to 90 days for $15 per request, and billing restarts on its own. Basic members pay $25 to move their home gym. A personal training subscription can be cancelled only for a move more than 25 miles from the nearest VASA or by selling the remaining training to someone else, and either way costs $100.
VASA’s rules against § 3956
The federal right in 50 U.S.C. § 3956 reaches a gym membership signed before your orders, once those orders relocate you for at least 90 days to a location that does not support the contract. It also reaches a contract signed after PCS orders that a stop-movement order then keeps you from using. The § 3956 explainer covers the other contract types; the statute page has the full text.
| Item | VASA’s rules | § 3956 |
|---|---|---|
| Leaving in the first six months | $25 Cancellation Fee | No early termination charge, (e)(1) |
| Notice | 30 days; drafts in that window stay due | Written notice, orders, and the date service ends, (a)(3); no notice period |
| Dues already drafted | No refunds for unused time | Amounts paid for time after your end date refunded within 60 days, except the billing period you end in, (f) |
| $59.99 Rate Guarantee Fee | Yearly, no refund rule published | A reading: arguably partly refundable under (f) |
| Training subscription | Relocation cancel costs $100 | Arguably a fitness program; the fee looks like an early termination charge |
| Rejoining | Not addressed | No reinstatement charge if you re-subscribe in the 90-day period beginning on the last day of the relocation, (e)(2) |
VASA column from its Rules and Regulations page; statute from the 2024 U.S. Code on GovInfo. Both read October 10, 2026.
The $25 row is the clean one. Whatever VASA calls the fee, it is owed only when a membership ends before month six, which makes it an early termination charge on a plain reading of (e)(1).
The Rate Guarantee Fee row is the open question. Section 3956(f) reaches “any fee or other amount to the extent paid for a period extending until after” termination, but lets the gym keep “the remainder of the monthly or similar billing period.” No court has said how that applies to a yearly fee. Treat any refund as something to request, not something owed for certain.
Two members, priced
Both hold the $24.99 Fitness plan at Clinton and get orders to Germany for three years.
| Situation | Normal VASA cancellation | Terminated under § 3956 |
|---|---|---|
| Joined 4 months ago | $25 fee plus one $24.99 draft in the notice window: $49.99 | No $25 fee; a draft for a period after the end date comes back within 60 days |
| Joined 13 months ago; fee date in 3 weeks | Notice window covers the fee date: $24.99 plus $59.99, or $84.98 | End date set before the fee date: $0 of the $59.99 |
Prices before tax. Your join date and billing date set the real numbers.
The second row is where most of the money sits. VASA’s 30-day window can swallow the anniversary date. The statute has no notice period, so you pick an end date ahead of it.
Moves inside VASA’s footprint
The statute asks whether the new location “does not support the contract.” A Fitness or Studio plan opens every VASA gym. A PCS from Hill to Fort Carson or Peterson lands you near four open Colorado Springs VASAs, so that contract arguably still works there. In that case keep the plan, or move a Basic plan’s home gym for $25.
Orders out of the 10 states with open VASA gyms, overseas, or onto a ship are the clean case. So is a deployment of 90 days or more, where no gym is reachable at all.
Arizona members have an extra layer. VASA’s Arizona addendum writes the state’s health spa law into Arizona memberships, and the copy of that law VASA posts provides for cancellation or suspension when a member on federal active duty deploys outside Arizona. The request goes in with orders within 90 days of notice of the deployment. Section 3956 still applies on top of it.
Cancel VASA on orders
End a VASA membership under § 3956
- Open the VASA app and note three dates: your join date, your next draft, and your Rate Guarantee Fee date.
- Write the notice: name, home gym, barcode number, the date service ends, and “I am terminating under 50 U.S.C. § 3956; no cancellation fee applies.” The letter generator drafts it.
- Attach your orders. If they send you outside the states where VASA has open gyms, or overseas, say so in one line.
- Send both through support.vasafitness.com or to support@vasafitness.com, and keep the sent copy. Certified mail to Member Services, 1259 S 800 E, Orem, UT 84097, is VASA’s own written channel.
- Cancel any training subscription in the same letter and cite § 3956 against the $100 relocation fee.
- Check your statement. A draft or fee for a period after your end date should come back within 60 days under § 3956(f).
If VASA keeps billing after a valid notice, the enforcement guide lays out the next steps.
Guard members and spouses
Guard and Reserve members on qualifying orders count as servicemembers under § 3956(a)(4)(C); Guard and Reserve coverage explains which orders qualify. A spouse’s own VASA plan is covered only in the narrow cases the family guide lists, so a spouse inside six months should expect the $25 fee on a routine PCS. VASA’s dues are small next to the rest of the move; PCS money moves covers the bigger line items.

Frequently asked questions
Does VASA Fitness have a military discount?
No published one. On October 10, 2026, VASA's membership pages, plan tables, and Rules and Regulations page listed no military rate, and vasafitness.com/military returned a 404. The only military content on the site was a 2016 Veterans Day blog post naming member veterans. VASA does offer employer-subsidized Corporate Wellness plans, which skip the $25 Cancellation Fee, so check whether your civilian employer or spouse's employer is enrolled. Otherwise the price is the posted one, for example $24.99 a month for the Fitness plan at the Clinton, Utah gym near Hill Air Force Base.
What is the VASA military membership price?
There is no separate military price. The Clinton, Utah gym listed three plans on October 10, 2026: Basic at $14.99 a month for one gym, Fitness at $24.99 for every VASA gym, and Studio at $44.99 with classes. VASA's rules also set a Rate Guarantee Fee of $59.99 as of September 1, 2025, billed two months after you join and every year after on that date. Enrollment fees on the page were promotional, so check the current one before you sign.
Can I cancel VASA Fitness with military orders?
Yes, if the orders relocate you for 90 days or more to a place your plan cannot serve and you joined before getting them. 50 U.S.C. § 3956(e)(1) bars an early termination charge, and VASA's $25 Cancellation Fee, charged only when a membership ends before six months, is one on a plain reading. Send VASA written notice through its help center, support email, or certified mail to Member Services in Orem, Utah, with a copy of your orders and the date service should end.
Can I freeze my VASA membership for a deployment?
Only for 90 days at a time. VASA's rules allow a hold of up to 90 days for a $15 fee per freeze request, and billing restarts on its own after day 90. Checking in at any VASA gym ends the freeze early. A six-month or longer deployment outruns one freeze, so termination under 50 U.S.C. § 3956 is usually cheaper. The rules say nothing about whether the Rate Guarantee Fee pauses during a freeze.
Do I get the $59.99 Rate Guarantee Fee back if I cancel on orders?
That is a reading, not settled law. 50 U.S.C. § 3956(f) requires a refund within 60 days of any fee paid for a period after your termination date, except the rest of the monthly or similar billing period you end in. VASA says the fee locks your monthly rate for the life of the membership and bills yearly. Whether a yearly fee counts as prepaid time or a one-time charge has no published ruling. The safe move is timing: get your notice in before the anniversary date.
