Anytime Fitness has a military discount only at the clubs whose owners choose to offer one. Its corporate FAQ says so plainly, and the club in DuPont, Washington, beside Joint Base Lewis-McChord, is one that does: 10% off, available in-club. The money that matters more on orders is the termination fee, because every Anytime Fitness owner writes its own. Federal law sets that fee at zero when qualifying orders move you. Under 50 U.S.C. § 3956(e)(1), a gym may not impose an early termination charge on a membership ended under the statute.

What corporate promises, and what one club adds

Anytime Fitness’s FAQ, read October 9, 2026, answers the discount question in two sentences. It offers student, senior, and military discounts, “However, it is up to each location to opt-in to offer the discount.” The same FAQ says club dues and charges are “specific to each independently owned gym,” puts the average membership at $53 a month, and says some gyms sell 6, 12, and 18-month terms.

Two clubs near large installations show how wide that range runs.

ClubPlanDuesFees at signup
DuPont, WA12-month$29.99 every 2 weeks$1 enrollment
DuPont, WAMonthly$34.99 every 2 weeks$50 security activation
DuPont, WA6 months, paid in full$483.58$1 enrollment, $50 security activation
Copperas Cove, TX12-month$20 every 2 weeks$1 enrollment
Copperas Cove, TX18-month$17.99 every 2 weeks$19 enrollment
Copperas Cove, TX6 months, paid in full$287.95$19 enrollment, $25 enhancement

Each club’s own numbers, read on join.anytimefitness.com October 9, 2026. Both 12-month plans were sold under a “Join for $1” promotion, which Anytime’s offer terms tie to a minimum 12-month membership.

The DuPont page says: “We offer 10% off memberships for military, first responders, healthcare professionals, and teachers. Available in-club.” The Copperas Cove page, outside Fort Hood, showed no military offer that day, and neither club listed a military plan in the online join flow. If you want the discount, you ask in person and get it on paper.

The cancellation email on Anytime’s club pages

Anytime’s club pages carry a ready-made “Cancel my membership” email. All four read on October 9, 2026, from DuPont to El Paso, had the same text. Read its last sentence before you send it: “I understand the cancellation terms set forth in my agreement, including any required notice periods or fees, will apply.”

That line is fine for a civilian moving across town. It is the wrong thing to sign when orders qualify you under § 3956, because it concedes the fee the statute bars. Delete it. Replace it with one sentence naming the statute, and attach the orders. The FAQ confirms where the fee lives: each location’s agreement “covers the cost to cancel, how to cancel and more information on any additional termination fees you may incur.”

Anytime’s published terms against § 3956

Section 3956 lets you end a gym membership signed before your orders, once those orders relocate you for 90 days or more to a location that does not support the contract. It also covers a contract signed after PCS orders when a stop-movement order then keeps you from using it. The service contract explainer covers every provider type, and the full text of § 3956 is on this site.

Anytime column read on its FAQ and club pages October 9, 2026; statute read the same day in the 2024 edition on GovInfo.

Biweekly billing works in your favor here. Section 3956(f) lets the gym keep “the remainder of the monthly or similar billing period in which the termination occurs.” On a plan that drafts every two weeks, that period is arguably two weeks long. At DuPont, that caps what the club can hold back from dues already paid on the 12-month plan at one $29.99 payment. Anything already past due is still owed under § 3956(e)(1).

A worldwide key fob and “a location that does not support the contract”

Anytime’s membership page advertises access to more than 6,000 gyms worldwide, and the FAQ calls it “a global membership plan.” That is a real benefit on TDY. It also complicates the statute’s test. If your PCS lands you in a town with an Anytime Fitness, a club owner could argue the contract is still supported there. Section 3956 does not define the phrase.

Two practical paths follow. If the new station has a club you would use, compare a transfer first: the FAQ says it is free, but your dues may change to the new club’s rate, and a transfer moves the membership rather than ending it. If you are deploying to a ship, a field site, or a base camp, or the new duty station has no club you can reach, name that fact in your notice and terminate. The statute speaks of orders to relocate, not only PCS orders, so a deployment of 90 days or more fits its words.

Deploying from DuPont, priced

Take a Soldier at Lewis-McChord on DuPont’s 12-month plan at $29.99 every two weeks. Nine-month deployment orders arrive after 10 payments. For this illustration, 16 payments remain on the commitment; your agreement shows the real count.

Path after ordersCost
Keep paying through the term16 x $29.99 = $479.84
Pay the agreement’s early cancellation chargeSet by the DuPont owner; Anytime publishes no figure
Freeze, if the club allows itClub sets the length and any fee
End it under § 3956No termination charge; at most the current $29.99 period

Figures exclude tax. The 10% military discount, if applied to dues, would make each payment about $26.99.

The same club also shows why the commitment is cheaper for you than for a civilian. The 12-month plan saves $5 a payment against the Monthly plan, or $130 over 26 payments, and skips the $50 security activation fee. Most members who sign a term risk the exit fee. A servicemember whose orders qualify does not.

Cancel Anytime Fitness on orders

End an Anytime Fitness membership under § 3956

  1. Get a copy of your membership agreement from your home club. Note the cancellation section, the notice period, and whether you initialed automatic renewal.
  2. Write the notice: your name, phone, home club, the end date, and “I am terminating this membership and any training agreement under 50 U.S.C. § 3956.” The letter generator drafts the gym version.
  3. Attach orders showing a relocation or deployment of 90 days or more, and say in the notice why the membership does not serve the new location.
  4. Email it to the home club from the address on your account, or hand it in during staffed office hours and ask for a dated copy. Do not use the stock email line that accepts fees.
  5. List any personal training, nutrition, or recovery agreement in the same notice. The club template treats them as separate agreements.
  6. Watch your bank statement. If ABC Financial drafts for a billing period after the one you end in, send it the notice and ask for the refund § 3956(f) requires within 60 days.

If the club still bills a termination fee, installation legal assistance can step in at no cost, and the enforcement guide covers DOJ complaints and private suits.

Spouses, Guard members, and the rest of the move

The right belongs to the servicemember. A spouse’s own membership qualifies only in the narrow cases in § 3956(a)(4), such as a member’s death in service or a stop-movement relocation the spouse shares; the family guide explains them. A spouse moving with you can still use the free transfer. Guard and Reserve members are covered while on qualifying orders, and Guard and Reserve coverage sorts out which ones count.

Planet Fitness prints one buyout fee for its 12-month plan instead of club-by-club terms; its military page has the numbers. For the larger bills on the same orders, start with the deployment checklist and PCS money moves.

The law behind this: 50 U.S.C. § 3956

Frequently asked questions

Does Anytime Fitness have a military discount?

Sometimes. The Anytime Fitness FAQ (read October 9, 2026) says it offers student, senior, and military discounts, but "it is up to each location to opt-in." The DuPont, Washington club page lists 10% off memberships for military, first responders, healthcare professionals, and teachers, available in-club. The Copperas Cove, Texas club page showed no military offer the same day. Ask your home club before you sign, and have the discount written on the agreement, because each club is a separate business.

How much does Anytime Fitness cost with the military discount?

Anytime Fitness says prices vary by club and puts the average membership at $53 a month. At DuPont, Washington on October 9, 2026, the 12-month plan was $29.99 every two weeks after a $1 enrollment fee, and the plan it calls Monthly was $34.99 every two weeks plus a $50 security activation fee. If DuPont applies its 10% military discount to dues, the 12-month plan drops to about $26.99 a payment. The club page says the discount is handled in-club, so confirm the math at the desk.

Can I cancel Anytime Fitness with military orders?

Yes, if the orders relocate you for at least 90 days to a place your membership cannot serve and you joined before getting them. 50 U.S.C. § 3956(b)(1)(E) covers gym memberships and fitness programs, and § 3956(e)(1) says the gym may not impose an early termination charge. Anytime Fitness says each location's agreement sets the cost to cancel and any additional termination fees. On qualifying orders that charge does not apply. Deliver written notice, the orders, and your end date to the home club.

Can I transfer my Anytime Fitness membership when I PCS?

Yes. The Anytime Fitness FAQ says all memberships are transferable, a relocation transfer must be more than 10 miles from your last residence, and there is no transfer fee. It also warns that your rate could change when you change home gyms. A transfer moves the membership rather than ending it. If your new duty station has no Anytime Fitness you would use, ending the membership under 50 U.S.C. § 3956 is usually the cleaner move.

Who handles Anytime Fitness billing if charges continue after I leave?

Anytime Fitness names ABC Financial Services as the billing provider that holds payment information and processes dues for its clubs, at 888-827-9262. If a draft posts for time after your termination date, send ABC and your home club a copy of your notice and orders. Under 50 U.S.C. § 3956(f), money paid for a period after the termination date must be refunded within 60 days, except for the rest of the billing period in which you terminate.
