Cove Security Military Discount: ID.me, No Contract, a 30-Day Catch
Part of: The Complete Guide to the SCRA
Cove does have a military discount, and Cove writes it to stack on whatever sale is running. Its military page says verified members get “an additional discount on our current promotional pricing,” taken through ID.me, with security cameras left out (read October 10, 2026). Cove also sells monitoring without a contract on most plans. That leaves two places a service member with orders can lose money: a 30-day cancellation rule, and a 36-month equipment commitment on older Economy accounts.
Cove’s terms beside § 3956
Home security joined the list of contracts in § 3956(b) with the January 2023 amendment, and the trigger is the same as for phone and internet: “military orders to relocate for a period of not less than 90 days to a location that does not support the contract,” received after you signed. The phone, cable, and internet guide covers the section in full. Cove’s own pages against it, checked October 10, 2026:
| Item | Cove’s pages say | On qualifying orders |
|---|---|---|
| Military discount | Extra percentage off promotional equipment pricing via ID.me, cameras excluded, plus 1 month free monitoring | Not a federal right |
| Monitoring price | Help center: Basic $22.99, Plus $32.99, Premium $42.99 a month; sales page: $0.67 to $1.33 a day | Unchanged |
| Commitment | None on Value; 36 months on legacy Economy and Pay Later or Never purchases | Contract must predate the orders, § 3956(b)(2) |
| How to cancel | Phone, 855-268-3669, at least 30 days before the next billing date | Written or electronic notice, orders, and stop date, § 3956(a)(3) |
| When it ends | End of the prepaid month; a late request triggers one more draft | Current billing period kept; later prepaid amounts back within 60 days, § 3956(f) |
| Equipment | Yours; title passes when it ships | Nothing to return |
| Where it works | Throughout the United States; not Canada | An overseas duty station cannot support the plan |
The 30-day call, in dollars
Section 24 of Cove’s Terms of Sale says: “All Service Plans require a minimum of 30 days verbal request of cancellation prior to the next billing date to assure cancellation of automatic payments.” A request inside that window “will result in a final payment drawn from your account on your established auto-draft date,” and service runs 30 days from the last bill.
Cove’s help center FAQ (updated May 15, 2026) prices monitoring at $22.99, $32.99, and $42.99 a month. Its monitoring sales page shows $0.67, $1.00, and $1.33 a day instead, about $20.38, $30.42, and $40.45 over an average month, so check your own bill. Using the help center’s prices, say you are on the Plus plan and your orders give you two weeks. Call 12 days before your billing date and Cove’s rule takes one more $32.99; on Premium it is $42.99. Under § 3956(a)(3) your notice sets “the date on which the service is to be terminated,” and § 3956(f) requires a refund, within 60 days, of anything paid for time after that date “except for the remainder of the monthly or similar billing period in which the termination occurs.” Pick a stop date just before the next billing date, say so in writing, and that extra draft is money Cove owes back.
The Economy plan’s 36 months
Cove’s Equipment Payment Options article describes the Economy plan this way: up to $415 in free equipment, the first month of monitoring, “an additional $10/month convenience fee,” and a commitment to 36 months, after which the equipment is paid off. The article notes the plan was for the Cove Simple panel, which Cove no longer sells, so this section matters to members who signed up earlier.
Cove’s two documents describe the exit differently. The help article on cancelling says an Economy customer who leaves before 36 months has “a remaining balance on your equipment to pay off before your account can be closed,” with the figure in the original order confirmation email. Section 8 of the Terms of Sale, which covers equipment bought under “Pay Later or Never” options with the same 36-month commitment, says a Pay Later customer must pay the full purchase price of the products before cancelling, and that this amount “is the same amount whether you paid for your Product(s) at the time of your purchase or at the time of the cancellation.” On an illustrative $415 of equipment, the first reading shrinks with each payment; the second stays at $415 until the 36 months are done.
Section 3956(e)(1) bars “an early termination charge” but keeps any obligation that, under the contract, “is due and unpaid” at termination. A purchase price Cove collects only because you left early looks like the first; Cove treats it as the price of equipment you keep. The statute does not settle that by name. Cite § 3956 in your notice, ask Cove in writing to waive the equipment charge, and keep the order email. ADT, by comparison, still collects equipment loan balances after an SCRA cancellation, as its SCRA page shows.
When the orders count
Cove’s moving guide says the system “is designed to move with you”: test mode, unplug, pack, reinstall, update the address. A stateside PCS is therefore a weak fit for “a location that does not support the contract,” and on the Value plan you can simply cancel anyway. Orders overseas are the clean case, since Cove’s help center places its service in the United States. If your orders arrive within 60 days of purchase, skip the statute: Cove’s money-back guarantee refunds everything, monitoring included, when the products go back inside that window.
Cancel Cove on military orders
- Find your order confirmation email: plan, purchase date, and any equipment balance. Check eligibility with the eligibility checker.
- Inside 60 days of purchase? Request an Equipment Return Authorization in your Cove account or at 855-268-3669 and ship everything back before day 60.
- Otherwise, call 855-268-3669, say you are terminating under 50 U.S.C. § 3956, and give a stop date before your next billing date.
- Send written notice with a copy of your orders and the stop date to Cove Smart, LLC, ATTN: Legal, 450 North 1500 West, Orem, Utah 84057, the address Cove’s Terms of Sale give for written dispute notices. The letter generator drafts it.
- On an Economy account, ask in the same letter that Cove waive the equipment charge under § 3956(e)(1), and get its answer in writing.
- Watch the final draft. Anything taken for time after your stop date, beyond the billing period you ended in, is due back within 60 days. If you come home and want Cove again, the deadline checker tracks the 90-day period, beginning on the last day of your relocation, when § 3956(e)(2) bars a reinstatement charge.
Home security is one of several contracts the same orders reach; PCS money moves lists the rest, and Vivint’s military program shows how a contract-based competitor handles orders.

Frequently asked questions
Does Cove Security have a military discount?
Yes. Cove's military page, read October 10, 2026, offers veterans and active-duty military an extra percentage off Cove's current promotional equipment pricing after you verify through ID.me, plus one month of free professional monitoring and Cove's 60-day money-back guarantee. Security cameras are excluded from the extra discount. The page fills in the percentage in your browser; the copy served to an automated check that day showed a placeholder where the number goes, so confirm the figure in your cart before you pay. Cove runs similar pages for teachers, medical workers, government employees, and students.
Does Cove have a contract?
Cove's help center says all its plans are contract-free, and its Value plan, where you pay for equipment up front, can be cancelled any time with no fee. The exception is the Economy plan, in which Cove supplied up to $415 of equipment for a $10 monthly convenience fee and a 36-month commitment. Cove's help center says that plan was for the Cove Simple panel, which it no longer sells, and that Economy customers who cancel before 36 months must pay off the equipment balance shown in their order confirmation email.
How do I cancel my Cove Security subscription?
By phone. Cove's help article on cancelling, updated May 13, 2026, and Section 24 of its Terms of Sale both route cancellations through a call to 855-268-3669. The Terms of Sale ask for the request at least 30 days before your next billing date; a request inside that window means one more monthly payment is drawn and service runs 30 days from the last bill. On qualifying orders, also send written notice with a copy of the orders and your stop date, because § 3956(a)(3) requires both and lets you set the date.
What is Cove's cancellation policy in the first 60 days?
Cove's Terms of Sale give a full refund, including monitoring fees, if you notify Cove within 60 days of purchase and ship the products back within the same 60 days. You need an Equipment Return Authorization from your Cove account or from support at 855-268-3669, and the return must include promotional items and accessories. If your orders arrive inside that window, this is the cheapest exit Cove offers, cheaper than any statute, because everything you paid comes back.
Can I take my Cove system with me when I PCS?
Yes. Cove's moving article says the system is designed to move with you: put the account in test mode by calling support, unplug the hub, let the backup battery drain for 24 hours, pack the sensors, panel, and cameras, reinstall at the new home, and update your address in the customer portal. Cove's help center says its service is available throughout the United States and not in Canada. A move overseas is different; that is the case where § 3956 lets you end the plan.
