Frontier Military Deployment: $5 Vacation Hold, or Cancel on Orders
Part of: The Complete Guide to the SCRA
Frontier gives service members one useful tool, and it is not labeled military: a $5-a-month Vacation Service that parks your internet, phone, and TV for up to nine months. For anything longer, or a move out of its footprint, the federal right to cancel on orders does the work. Both sit inside a company in transition: frontier.com now carries a Verizon copyright, and Verizon’s Fios Customer Agreement is replacing Frontier’s own terms (all read October 9, 2026).
Hold or cancel: what Frontier’s pages say
Frontier’s Vacation Service page and the statute, checked October 9, 2026:
| Frontier Vacation Service | Cancel under § 3956 | |
|---|---|---|
| Cost while away | $5 a month, pro-rated | $0 after the final billing cycle |
| Length | 2 to 9 months within any 12 months | Permanent |
| Who qualifies | Account at least 30 days old, no past-due balance | Orders to relocate 90 days or more to a place the service does not reach, contract signed before the orders |
| Number and email | Phone number and frontier.net email kept | Telephone exchange (landline) number held if you re-subscribe within 90 days after a relocation of 3 years or less ends, § 3956(c) |
| Promotions | No cancellation fee; the promo-rate clock keeps running; a term plan is extended by the months on hold | Early termination charge barred, § 3956(e)(1) |
| Equipment | Stays in the house | Router back within 10 days of disconnection, § 3956(e)(3) |
| Coming back | 48 hours’ notice; online by the next business day | New order, or a move order where Frontier serves |
Frontier’s cancel page describes the hold as “one to nine months,” while the Vacation Service page sets a two-month minimum. Plan on two. The Vacation Service page also says a hold cannot be restarted for 30 days after you turn it off.
The right column is not limited to active duty. Section 3956(a)(4)(C) treats a reserve component member performing military service, full-time National Guard duty, active Guard and Reserve duty, or inactive-duty training as a servicemember for this section, so a Guard or Reserve mobilization with orders relocating you for 90 days or more to a place the service does not reach counts. The general § 3956 rules are in the phone, cable, and internet guide. What matters at Frontier is which of the two columns costs less for your orders.
The dollar math on a deployment
Frontier’s movers page advertised Fiber 1 Gig at $64.99 a month with a 5-year price guarantee on October 9, 2026, a phone-order offer for existing customers at select addresses. Your own rate may differ; as an illustration, use $64.99 for a 6-month deployment with nobody at home:
- Keep paying: 6 × $64.99 = $389.94.
- Vacation Service: 6 × $5 = $30, and you keep the router, the number, and the email. You save $359.94, but six months of the price guarantee run out while you are gone, because Frontier says the promotional clock keeps running during a hold.
- Cancel: $0 a month after the final cycle, plus whatever Frontier charges at disconnect (below), and you reorder as a returning customer.
For 6 months, the hold usually wins. For a 10-month deployment it is not available, since Frontier caps holds at nine of any 12 months; cancel on the orders instead. A PCS to a state Frontier does not serve is a cancel case too. Frontier’s 25-state footprint is on its cancel page, and its movers page says a move order can be placed up to 45 days ahead with free installation where you are staying in the footprint.
Returning equipment and the $50 restocking fee
Frontier’s help center says routers must be back within 30 days or “a fee of up to $500 for each unreturned device will apply.” Its cancel page fine print lists “a $50 equipment restocking fee per household” when internet is disconnected, “a fee up to $150 per device” for gear not returned, and up to $500 for 5 Gig equipment. The May 2025 internet terms describe the same $50 fee for returning equipment after a disconnection.
Returns run through The UPS Store, where a clerk scans the QR code Frontier emails or texts you, or through a return mailer you pack yourself. Frontier says DVRs and set-top boxes do not need to come back. On a § 3956 cancellation, the statute’s clock is 10 days, not 30, so ship the router before you leave.
The cancel page fine print applies the restocking fee whenever internet is disconnected, early or not. Section 3956(e)(1) bars an “early termination charge,” and its text does not say whether a flat disconnect fee is one. Ask Frontier in writing to waive it on your orders, and keep the answer.
The Verizon terms now covering Frontier
Verizon’s Fios Customer Agreement (dated October 1, 2026 on verizon.com; listed as November 2026 on frontier.com) names Frontier Internet, Frontier Fiber, Frontier TV, and Frontier voice as covered services. Three clauses matter on orders:
- Billing. Termination takes effect on the last day of that month’s billing cycle, and installation fees are not refunded. Section 3956(f) also excludes the current billing period from its refund rule, so set the cancel date at the cycle’s end.
- Promotions. If you cancel before a promotion’s minimum period ends, Verizon “may charge your account for an amount up to the full value of the Promotional Incentive.” That charge exists because you left early, which is what § 3956(e)(1) bars on qualifying orders.
- Discount. Verizon’s military discount FAQ covers Fios Home Internet and does not name Frontier. The discount Frontier itself advertises is $15 a month off Frontier Fiber for customers who may be eligible by pairing it with a Verizon mobile plan. Verizon’s mobile rules on orders are on the Verizon military page.
Hold or cancel Frontier on orders
- Count the months. Nine or fewer with the house standing empty: Vacation Service. Longer, or a move out of Frontier’s footprint: cancel. If family stays home, keep the service running. Check that your orders qualify with the eligibility checker.
- Vacation Service: chat with Frontier from frontier.com and give start and end dates. Confirm the $5 rate and that your phone number and email are held.
- Cancel: chat with Frontier or call 1-855-956-4702, the number under Canceling Service on its cancel page. Send written notice with your orders and the last day of a billing cycle as the end date. The letter generator drafts it.
- In the same notice, ask Frontier to waive the $50 restocking fee and confirm no promotional chargeback or ETF applies under 50 U.S.C. § 3956(e)(1).
- Take the router and power cord to The UPS Store with the QR code within 10 days. Keep the receipt.
- Check the final bill, and put the last day of your relocation plus 90 days in the deadline checker if you want your number back.
The rest of the pre-deployment paperwork is in the deployment money stack.

Frequently asked questions
Does Frontier have a military discount?
Not on frontier.com. Its discount programs page covers Lifeline and other affordability programs, and its site map lists no military page (read October 9, 2026). Verizon, which now owns Frontier, runs a military discount for Fios Home Internet verified through ID.me, but its FAQ names Fios plans of 300 Mbps, 500 Mbps, 1 Gig, and 2 Gig and does not mention Frontier Internet or Frontier Fiber. Ask Verizon in writing whether your Frontier plan qualifies before you count on it.
Can I suspend Frontier while I am deployed?
Yes. Frontier's Vacation Service suspends voice, internet, and Frontier TV for a minimum of two months and up to nine months in any 12-month period, for $5 a month, pro-rated. Your account must be at least 30 days old with no past-due balance, and it keeps your phone number and frontier.net email. Frontier says no cancellation fee applies because the service is only suspended.
Will Frontier charge a fee if I cancel on PCS orders?
Frontier internet is month to month unless you agreed to a term arrangement, and month to month carries no early termination fee. Frontier's May 2025 terms charge an ETF only on a term arrangement, and Verizon's Fios Customer Agreement, which now covers Frontier services, adds that a promotional incentive can be charged back if you leave early. On orders relocating you 90 days or more to a place the service does not reach, 50 U.S.C. § 3956(e)(1) bars any early termination charge. Frontier's $50 restocking fee is a separate question, covered below.
What Frontier equipment do I have to return?
Frontier's help center lists the routers and extenders that must go back: NVG443B, NVG448B and NVG448BQ gateways, eero models, Sagemcom routers and extenders, and TP-Link Archer AXE300 and RE815XE units, each with its power cord. Frontier's help center says TV equipment such as DVRs and set-top boxes does not need to be returned. Returns go through The UPS Store with a QR code, or a return mailer.
Is Frontier part of Verizon now?
Yes. Verizon's Form 8-K filed with the SEC says it completed the acquisition of Frontier on January 20, 2026, with Frontier surviving as a wholly owned subsidiary. Frontier.com carries a 2026 Verizon copyright, its terms page moved Frontier's legal notice address to Basking Ridge, New Jersey effective May 29, 2026, and Verizon's Fios Customer Agreement now names Frontier Internet, Frontier Fiber, Frontier TV, and Frontier voice as covered services. Former Frontier customers not yet moved to Verizon billing still see their bill in MyFrontier, the agreement says, so check which portal your bill is in before you call.
