Service Credit Union Military Pay Dates: Dec 31 Pay Posts Dec 28
Part of: The Complete Guide to the SCRA
Service Credit Union publishes its early military pay days for 2026, and for the rest of this year they are October 28, November 11 and 27, and December 11 and 28. Its disclosure says credit comes up to two business days early, but the December 28 date for DFAS’s December 31 payday is three. Everything here was read on servicecu.org and DFAS’s site on October 16, 2026.
Service CU’s 2026 dates matched to DFAS
Service CU’s military banking page lists two day numbers per month and does not say which DFAS payday each replaces. The pairing below is by order. DFAS dates come from DFAS’s 2026 active duty table, updated August 25, 2026. A business day here is a weekday that is not on OPM’s federal holiday list. The October 15 payday (October 13 at Service CU) has passed, so the table starts with October 30.
| DFAS pays | Service CU early pay day | Business days ahead | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| October 30 (Fri) | October 28 (Wed) | 2 | |
| November 13 (Fri) | November 11 (Wed) | Holiday | Veterans Day; two business days early would be November 10 |
| December 1 (Tue) | November 27 (Fri) | 2 | The day after Thanksgiving |
| December 15 (Tue) | December 11 (Fri) | 2 | |
| December 31 (Thu) | December 28 (Mon) | 3 | Past the two-day disclosure |
Run the same count over the whole year and 22 of Service CU’s 24 dates for 2026 sit exactly two business days before DFAS. The two exceptions are both above: November 11, a federal holiday that the credit union uses as a pay day, and December 28. The 2026 DFAS pay calendar explains why DFAS pays December 31 instead of January 1.
The promise in Service CU’s own words
The footnote on both the military page and the Everyday Checking page reads: “Immediate credit of your direct deposit to your Service CU account up to two (2) business days early is based upon when we receive your payroll from your employer.” The next sentence carries the weight: Service CU “cannot assume any liability for not depositing these funds to your account early.” Membership takes $5 in a Primary Savings Account.
The blog post on early pay adds four practical points:
- DFAS sends pay information to financial institutions up to two business days before the 1st and 15th, which is what makes early credit possible.
- If a weekend or holiday lands on the 1st or 15th, pay “may actually post more than 2 days prior,” since those days do not count.
- “There is no set time of day when your pay will be credited.” A deposit showing as pending is not yet money you can spend.
- In December 2020, a continuing resolution signed late on Friday, December 11 left DFAS no time to send pay information early, so that month’s first early payday did not happen. Service CU’s advice from that episode: set automatic bill pay for the official DFAS dates, not the early ones.
Which accounts get it
The military page offers early pay to active duty members who direct deposit to a Service CU checking account. Two products qualify, Everyday Checking and Dividend Checking. Everyday Checking has three tiers, and only two of them list early pay:
- Basic: no monthly fee, no early pay listed.
- Direct Deposit: paid up to two days early, a 0.50% APR discount on auto, personal and motorcycle loans, and up to $15 a month in ATM surcharge and foreign transaction fee rebates.
- Direct Deposit+: a 0.75% APR loan discount and up to $30 a month in rebates.
Service CU says the tier changes automatically with your direct deposit and number of transactions. It publishes no separate dates for retired pay or VA payments.
For a deployment, the military page also lists a Deployed Warrior Savings Account that pays 10% APY on balances up to $10,000 while you serve in a combat zone, with net pay direct deposited to Service CU. The page dates that rate “as of 07/01/2025,” over a year before this read, so confirm it at a branch before you plan around it. Pay earned in a combat zone may also be tax-free under the combat zone exclusion.
Worked example: euro rent and a late early payday
The rent and balance are assumed for illustration. The dates, fees and rules are Service CU’s and DFAS’s.
You rent off post in Germany for €1,100 a month and pay through Service CU’s International Bill Pay, which charges $1.00 per online or recurring payment. You move the recurring order to Monday, November 30, counting on the November 27 early pay day for the December 1 paycheck.
If DFAS’s file is on time, the order clears. If it is not, the pay posts Tuesday, December 1, and the order meets an account without the money. Service CU’s terms say an overdraft charge is debited and the payment may not be executed. Its overdraft fee is $19 per presentment, and it can be charged each time the same item is presented. The FAQ says a failed payment is retried in five business days, which from November 30 is Monday, December 7, by this site’s count. Your pay will have posted by then, so the retry should clear, but the rent reaches your landlord about a week late, and you have paid a $19 fee on top of the $1.00 transfer charge.
Set the order for December 1 instead and nothing depends on the early credit. Two more traps from the same FAQ: an order dated on a weekend or U.S. holiday debits the next business day, and one dated the 31st moves to the last calendar day in a shorter month. Your account also runs in dollars, so the euro amount costs a little more or less each month as the rate moves.
Set up Service CU so the early day is a bonus
- Confirm your Everyday Checking tier in online banking. Basic does not list early pay; the Direct Deposit tiers do.
- Point net pay to that account in myPay; Service CU’s routing number on its military page is 211489656.
- Date International Bill Pay orders and autopays for the DFAS date. For a recurring order, avoid weekend dates and the 31st, which shift.
- Wait for the deposit to post, not just show as pending, before you spend it.
- On a new account, remember Courtesy Pay is not available for the first 30 days after the initial deposit.
- For a pay emergency overseas, contact a military relief society before taking on high-cost credit.

Frequently asked questions
What are the Service Credit Union military pay dates for 2026?
Service CU's military banking page lists its 2026 early military pay days month by month. For the rest of the year they are October 28, November 11 and 27, and December 11 and 28 (read October 16, 2026). Matched in order, they stand in for DFAS's October 30 and November 13 paydays and its three December paydays (the 1st, 15th and 31st). October 13, for the October 15 payday, is already past. The page lists only the days, not which DFAS payday each one replaces, and it describes the early pay service as one for active duty members.
Is there a Service Credit Union military pay dates PDF?
Not on its military banking page. On October 16, 2026, Service CU's 2026 early pay calendar appeared there as text, and the only PDFs that page linked were deposit slips, a newcomer's guide and a VA home buying guide. A printable file carrying Service Credit Union's name on a third-party site (the one found on October 16, 2026 covers 2025) is not linked from that page, so check any such file against the page before you rely on it. If you want a printable copy, print the military banking page itself, or copy its twelve months of dates next to the DFAS 2026 table.
How early does Service Credit Union post military pay?
Its disclosure caps the promise at two business days, ties it to the moment Service CU receives your payroll, and says it cannot assume any liability for not depositing early (read October 16, 2026). The calendar is more aggressive than that once: December 28 is three business days before DFAS's December 31 payday. Everywhere else in 2026 it is two business days, except November 11, which is Veterans Day itself. Service CU's blog adds that there is no set time of day when pay is credited.
Why did my Service CU military pay not come early?
Service CU ties early credit to when it receives your payroll, and its blog gives a real example: in December 2020, a continuing resolution was signed too late for DFAS to send pay information early, so the first early payday of that month did not happen. Other causes are on your side of the counter: an Everyday Checking account at the Basic tier, which does not list early pay, or a direct deposit that has not started yet. Pay pending in the app is not yet available to spend.
Has Service Credit Union posted its 2027 early pay calendar?
Not yet. When read on October 16, 2026, the military banking page showed only the 2026 list, and DFAS had not yet published its own 2027 active duty table. Twenty-two of Service CU's 24 dates for 2026 sit exactly two business days before DFAS, so once DFAS posts 2027 dates you can estimate the credit union's, but label that estimate as yours. The December 28 date this year shows the credit union sometimes posts earlier than its pattern, and its disclosure says it is never bound to post early at all.
