Military Money Moves
Military Pay Dates 2026: One Payday in November, Early Pay by Bank
Part of: The Complete Guide to the SCRA
As of October 16, 2026, your next military payday is Friday, October 30, because November 1 is a Sunday. After that, DFAS pays November 13, December 1, December 15 and December 31, and an early-pay bank may post the money one to four days sooner. Every date was read October 10, 2026, on DFAS’s table or the institution’s own calendar, never computed from the 1st-and-15th rule.
The rest of 2026, from DFAS’s table
Source: DFAS 2026 Active Duty Paydays, marked updated August 25, 2026. The last column is when your LES or mid-month pay advisory posts in myPay.
| Pay | DFAS pay date | Why that date | Statement in myPay |
|---|---|---|---|
| October end-of-month | Fri, Oct 30 | Nov 1 is a Sunday | Oct 23 |
| November mid-month | Fri, Nov 13 | Nov 15 is a Sunday | Nov 7 |
| November end-of-month | Tue, Dec 1 | On schedule | Nov 24 |
| December mid-month | Tue, Dec 15 | On schedule | Dec 10 |
| December end-of-month | Thu, Dec 31 | Jan 1, 2027 is New Year’s Day | Dec 24 |
October gets three deposits (October 1, 15 and 30), November gets one, and December gets three. Rent due November 1 comes out of the October 30 deposit, and the November 13 deposit has to last 18 days.
The rule behind the dates
DFAS’s table prints no rule. The rule is in the DoD Financial Management Regulation, Volume 7A, Chapter 1 (dated May 2024). Paragraph 7.1 makes payday the first calendar day of the month after you earn the pay and allows one midmonth payment, which DFAS puts on the 15th. Paragraph 7.2: when a payday falls on a Saturday, Sunday or federal legal holiday, payment is authorized on the preceding workday, “but not more than 3 days before the scheduled payday.” Active duty pay moves earlier, never later.
Payrolls due October 1 are the exception: the DoD Comptroller decides whether they may be dated in September. On OPM’s holiday list, the only holiday left that touches a 2026 payday is New Year’s Day 2027 (Friday, January 1), which moves the last one to December 31.
The full year (DFAS, read October 10, 2026); nine of the 24 dates moved earlier, eight for a weekend:
- Mid-month: Jan 15, Feb 13, Mar 13, Apr 15, May 15, Jun 15, Jul 15, Aug 14, Sep 15, Oct 15, Nov 13, Dec 15.
- End-of-month: Jan 30, Feb 27, Apr 1, May 1, Jun 1, Jul 1, Jul 31, Sep 1, Oct 1, Oct 30, Dec 1, Dec 31.
When the money lands at each institution
These four institutions publish a 2026 military pay calendar. Remaining dates, read on each one’s own site October 10, 2026 and re-checked October 16:
| DFAS pay date | Navy Federal (Free Active Duty Checking) | PenFed | Armed Forces Bank | Service CU |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fri, Oct 30 | Thu, Oct 29 | Wed, Oct 28 | Thu, Oct 29 | Wed, Oct 28 |
| Fri, Nov 13 | Wed, Nov 11 | Wed, Nov 11 | Thu, Nov 12 | Wed, Nov 11 |
| Tue, Dec 1 | Sat, Nov 28 | Sat, Nov 28 | Mon, Nov 30 | Fri, Nov 27 |
| Tue, Dec 15 | Sat, Dec 12 | Sat, Dec 12 | Mon, Dec 14 | Fri, Dec 11 |
| Thu, Dec 31 | Tue, Dec 29 | Tue, Dec 29 | Wed, Dec 30 | Mon, Dec 28 |
Each institution’s calendar, with the account and timing conditions behind it, has its own page: Navy Federal, PenFed, Armed Forces Bank and Service Credit Union. USAA publishes no calendar; its page explains the window it does print.
The correction. Navy Federal advertises pay one business day early, and pay-date websites build Navy Federal calendars by counting back one business day from DFAS, which yields November 12, November 30 and December 14. Navy Federal’s own calendar says November 11, November 28, December 12 and December 29. Without Free Active Duty Checking you get the regular column, which matches DFAS for the rest of 2026 but showed Saturdays for two past paydays (May 30, June 13) where DFAS paid June 1 and 15.
Service CU runs furthest ahead. Monday, December 28 for DFAS’s Thursday, December 31 payday is three business days early, though its disclosure says up to two. Armed Forces Bank is the steadiest: one business day before each DFAS date, or two business days before the 1st or 15th when that date is itself a weekend or holiday. That is how Sunday, November 15 becomes Thursday, November 12.
Fees and ATM refunds are compared in best bank for military, and membership rules in military credit unions.
What each one promises, in its own words
Read October 10, 2026, on each institution’s own pages.
| Institution | Early pay as printed | The condition it prints |
|---|---|---|
| Navy Federal | Free Active Duty Checking members “will receive their direct deposit one business day early” | No caveat printed |
| PenFed | ”up to 2 days early” | May vary with “timing of paying agency’s funding” |
| USAA | ”up to two days early” | Depends on notice from the payer; not guaranteed |
| Armed Forces Bank | One business day; two when payday is a weekend or holiday | No early posting without advance payment information |
| Service CU | ”up to two (2) business days early” | Based on when it receives your payroll |
| Security Service FCU | ”up to 2 days early” | Not guaranteed; can end without notice |
| Andrews FCU | ”up to one day early” | Depends on when the payer submits |
| Wells Fargo | ”up to two business days early” (Early Pay Day) | Military pay not named; ACH payroll eligible; not guaranteed |
Chase’s military banking page and Bank of America’s military benefits page publish no early-pay promise. Chase offers early direct deposit, up to two business days, only on Chase Secure Banking, not Total Checking.
Wells Fargo and Security Service both say they may release money before they receive the funds from the payor. Early pay is the bank fronting a deposit it has been told is coming. Wells Fargo’s FAQ shows the mechanics: the amount appears in your available balance early, but the deposit stays pending until the official pay date.

A bill due on the 1st: a worked example
Illustration only, except the named fee. Your $1,400 rent is on autopay, and you have $300 in checking on Friday, November 27.
- Rent set for December 1, the DFAS date. Every institution above has the December 1 pay in by then. Rent clears; early posting is cushion.
- Rent moved to November 28 because “pay comes early.” If the bank posts on its calendar date, rent clears, except at Armed Forces Bank (November 30). If the payment notice is late and the deposit posts December 1, the draft meets a $300 balance, $1,100 short. Service CU charges $19 per presentment for an overdraft it pays, and can charge again each time the same item is presented (Everyday Checking page, read October 10, 2026). If the item is returned instead, your landlord’s fees come next.
Early pay is worth days, not dollars. Armed Forces Bank’s FAQ says not to write checks or authorize withdrawals against a direct deposit until you confirm it posted. Spend the head start, never schedule against it.
Retirees, survivors, Guard and Reserve
DFAS’s retiree pay schedule (updated September 16, 2026) says retired and annuitant pay is due on the 1st. When the 1st is a weekend or holiday, retirees are paid the last business day before it and annuitants the first business day after. Retirees get October 30, December 1 and December 31. SBP annuitants get November 2, December 1 and January 4, 2027.
That page’s example sentence says retirees get November 2 for the October entitlement, but its own table says October 30, with November 2 for annuitants. The table fits the rule, so trust it. Navy Federal’s retired calendar puts those retiree deposits in Free Active Duty Checking on October 29, November 28 and December 29. State tax on retired pay is in military retirement pay by state.
DFAS’s 2026 Reserve Paydays table lists the same 24 pay dates as active duty; only a few statement dates differ. It gives no separate drill-weekend date, so do not plan on one. Which orders carry SCRA protection is in the Guard and Reserve coverage guide.
Set up November and December so nothing bounces
- Open myPay on the statement date (October 23, November 7, November 24, December 10, December 24) and check the net amount before it posts.
- Make sure the October 30 deposit covers everything due November 1 through 12, with a cushion for the 18 days after November 13.
- Set every autopay for the DFAS date, not your bank’s early date.
- Turn on deposit alerts, and spend early money only after it shows as posted.
- Allotments come out half from each paycheck but go out once a month, on the 1st. See the allotments guide.
- If a deposit is late, call your finance office first. For a bridge, go to a military aid society, not a payday lender.
The law behind this: DoD FMR Vol. 7A, Ch. 1, para. 7.2

Frequently asked questions
What are the Navy Federal military pay dates for 2026?
Navy Federal's Military Active Duty and Retired Posting Calendar 2026 lists two dates for every payday. For the rest of the year, Free Active Duty Checking members get pay on October 29, November 11, November 28, December 12 and December 29. Members without that account get the regular dates, which match DFAS for every remaining 2026 payday: October 30, November 13, December 1, December 15 and December 31 (read October 10 and again October 16, 2026). Navy Federal says Free Active Duty Checking members receive the deposit one business day early, but its calendar is earlier than that in four of the five remaining cycles, and two of those dates are Saturdays.
Does Navy Federal publish a military pay calendar?
Yes. It has a posting calendar page and a one-page PDF from its ACH Operations Branch whose header reads December 10, 2024 (the file itself was created May 27, 2026), with four columns for each 2026 payday: early posting, early funds available, regular posting and regular funds available. The early columns apply to Free Active Duty Checking. Pay-date websites that count back one business day from DFAS show Navy Federal paying November 12, November 30 and December 14. Navy Federal's own calendar says November 11, November 28, December 12 and December 29 (read October 10, 2026). Use the credit union's calendar for its dates and DFAS's table for the official payday.
What are the PenFed military pay dates for 2026?
PenFed's Treasury Direct Deposit Calendar, which links a 2026 PDF, lists military funds available on October 28, November 11, November 28, December 12 and December 29, against military posting dates of October 30, November 13, December 1, December 15 and December 31 (read October 10 and again October 16, 2026). The page itself prints no year; its military posting dates match DFAS's 2026 table. PenFed's direct deposit page says members may receive paychecks up to two days early, and that eligibility may vary between pay periods and with the timing of the paying agency's funding. Treat the calendar as PenFed's plan, not a promise.
When is military payday in November 2026?
Once, on Friday, November 13. November 15 is a Sunday, so DFAS pays the mid-month check the Friday before. The end-of-October pay, due November 1, also a Sunday, comes Friday, October 30, and the end-of-November pay comes Tuesday, December 1 (DFAS 2026 Active Duty Paydays, read October 10, 2026). That makes October a three-payday month and November a one-payday month. Budget for two stretches: 14 days from October 30 to November 13, and 18 days from November 13 to December 1. Early-pay banks pull the December 1 deposit back into late November.
What happens to military pay when the 1st or 15th falls on a weekend or holiday?
It moves earlier, never later. The DoD Financial Management Regulation, Volume 7A, Chapter 1, paragraph 7.2, says that when a payday falls on a Saturday, Sunday or federal legal holiday, payment is authorized on the preceding workday, but not more than 3 days before the scheduled payday. It also covers foreign holidays recognized abroad by U.S. forces. Payrolls due October 1 are carved out: the DoD Comptroller decides whether that payroll may be dated in September. In DFAS's 2026 table the rule moved 9 of 24 paydays earlier, eight for a weekend and one, December 31, for New Year's Day.
Is early military pay guaranteed?
No, and most banks say so in writing. USAA says early access is not guaranteed, may be stopped at any time, and depends on when it receives notice of payment, generally one to two business days before the scheduled date. PenFed says eligibility may vary between pay periods. Service CU says it cannot assume liability for not depositing funds early. Armed Forces Bank says it cannot post early when it does not receive your payment information ahead of time (all read October 10, 2026). Navy Federal's pages print no caveat at all. Plan as if they did, and schedule bills for the DFAS date.
